What's the most impactful image that I have seen in the context of #photoncounting CT over the last months? Maybe a Quantum HD acquisition of a complex fracture? Or an Iodine Map of a CT PA scan showing a perfusion defect that would otherwise have been missed? How about a pediatric scan at ultra-low dose levels that we could only hope for in the past and are now achievable with every scan? While all of these would probably be impressive in their respective context, the most impactful image I have seen is the one below. This graph is from the paper "Ultrahigh-Spatial-Resolution Photon-counting Detector CT Angiography of Coronary Artery Disease for Stenosis Assessment" by Moritz Halfmann et al and it illustrates how the high definition of Quantum HD Cardiac on NAEOTOM Alpha changes the CAD-RADS classification of CAD patients compared to conventional CT imaging. Over 54% of patients would be reclassified to a lower CAD-RADS category! When we started our photon-counting CT journey many years ago, our clinical advisors were convinced that this technology will change how we diagnose and how we treat patients. This study is proof of that hypothesis. Agree. This is one of the proofs. Every day we have proof from this PCCT technology that: - we do not need conventional catheter coronary angiography to diagnose coronary stenosis (only in STEMI is mandatory); we just need PCCT. - we get so much more information than any other test (including functional tests such as stress Echo, SPECT, stress CMR) in the context of coronary atherosclerotic disease. - that this information is more meaningful and relevant when challenged with what is going to be the therapeutic choice for the individual patient. - that the follow-up with PCCT of the patient finally makes sense and it provides us precise guidance on early effect (or lack of effect) of our therapies. Utilizing GE HealthCare's MRI systems, along with Circle Cardiovascular Imaging post-processing, this study represents a significant advancement in cardiac imaging.* 🔬 The focus of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Stress Cardiac MRI in detecting coronary artery disease. The research compared myocardial blood flow quantification against visual assessments by expert readers, offering valuable insights into the capabilities of advanced MRI technology. A reliable radiation-free sequence with only one-time perfusion

A new multicenter study aimed at improving surveillance for liver cirrhosis patients will launch in Linköping this fall. Mattias Ekstedt, CMIV researcher, is the Principal Investigator (PI) for the DETECT study, with several other CMIV researchers actively involved in the project. This head-to-head study will compare complete and abbreviated MRI versus conventional ultrasound for detecting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in 600 individuals with cirrhosis. Along with surveillance, the study will investigate the role of muscle health (sarcopenia) and its connection to clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH), aiming to improve patient outcomes. 🔬 Thrilled to announce our latest scientific publication in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging !. As the second author, I'm proud to present our research on "New Method CMR-Guided Endomyocardial Biopsy in Suspicion Context of Isolated Cardiac Sarcoidosis." Our research introduces a groundbreaking method in cardiac diagnostics: "New Method CMR-Guided Endomyocardial Biopsy in Suspicion Context of Isolated Cardiac Sarcoidosis." 📑 Our study addresses a critical challenge in diagnosing cardiac sarcoidosis – the low sensitivity of endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) due to its focal nature. To overcome this, we propose a computer assistance system that provides clinicians with invaluable support during the planning phase of EMB procedures. This system utilizes a deep learning model to generate a patient-specific numerical model of the heart, aiding in optimal location and path selection for EMB. 💻 The patient-specific model not only includes spatial information about fibrosis locations in the myocardium but also incorporates data about the right ventricle, enhancing relative localization. This feature significantly improves the safety and efficiency of EMB procedures, which is particularly vital in suspected cases of isolated cardiac sarcoidosis. We're currently working on expanding the model to incorporate data from PET/CT-FDG and 3-dimensional CT scans. 💡 Leveraging the preoperative planning model, clinicians can make informed decisions on the best sites for EMB, targeting abnormal areas identified through CMR and PET/CT imaging. This approach significantly improves the accuracy and efficacy of the procedure, leading to better patient outcomes. Our novel CMR-guided EMB method for suspected isolated cardiac sarcoidosis emphasizes automation, ensuring user-friendly software accessible to clinicians. 🌟 Revolutionizing Cardiovascular Imaging: Connaught Innovation Award to Prof. Andreas Mandelis   Atherosclerosis, a common condition among cardiovascular disease patients, poses significant challenges in detection and treatment. As the leading cause of death globally, its impact underscores the urgent need for advanced diagnostic technologies.  Intravascular Photoacoustic  (IVPA) imaging utilizes pulsed laser sources to provide detailed insights into plaque feature properties within arteries, offering superior resolution and contrast.
