This year, the project ecosystem around #EuProGigant was part of the EIT Manufacturing Summit. The EIT Manufacturing Summit took place under the motto “Sustainable manufacturing in Europe: the role of skills to move the needle”. This fits particularly well because we not only joined forces to drive the exchange and usage of data from production securely and sovereignly but also to foster collaboration among all project partners to create synergies between the five projects. “Additionally, the availability of skilled people is a prerequisite to successfully rolling out new data-driven technologies. The EIT Deep Tech Talent initiative contributes to this and will help technologies used by EuProGigant to be deployed in the future,” said Christian Bölling from EIT Manufacturing. Yesterday, I had the pleasure to attend the 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION SUMMIT hosted by Henkel in Amsterdam together with my colleagues Christian Guse and Dr. Dominic C. Klemmer. Big thank you to Dr. Dirk Holbach, Achim Kempf and Wolfgang Weber for inviting us. We highly appreciated the exchange with over 80 industry experts and the opportunity to share Boston Consulting Group (BCG) perspective on new emerging tech impacting the world of manufacturing. My 3 key take aways: ✳ We live in the age of #accelerated compute which means the Factory of the Future is born in simulation and working in reality. A broad spectrum of IT&OT technologies including #GenAI, Synthetic Data Generation and photorealistic rendering offer new opportunities to save cost but also to innovate along the entire factory lifecycle from Product- & Factory Design over Factory Automation to -Operations. ✳ As as a next step we need to work on #Interoperability through open ecosystems (see open #USD alliance) to ease the exchange of information across application domains as well as organisational boundaries. ✳ While doing this companies need to invest into building its own “Factory Ontology” to make engineering and manufacturing data accessible and manageable for #LLMs. Once this is done we can unlock the full power of GenAI and expect a “ChatGPT” moment for manufacturing.
