I wish everyone would just understand...
As a HR I'm literally an employee just like everyone else!
So It really bothers us HR folks when people think we stand in the way of raises, benefits, time off, etc. Like WHAT!? 🤷♀️🤦♀️
If the employees get a raise = I get a raise 📈
If the company cuts jobs = My job could get cut too ⛔
➡ We're on the SAME TEAM! Why would I not want to ADVOCATE for employees? I'm LITERALLY an employee too!!!

LET'S BE FAIR with our description of workplace realities here.
Unless one is an assertive HRBP, the preponderance of HR team members are behind the scenes and typically have unique exposure to non-HR employees that mainly manifests at recruiting and removal, with sprinkles of mediation in between.
The 7-figure and below revenue generators have small teams that require the HR team to work closely with everyone else. Such is the outlier that doesn't typically experience the alienation historical for HR.
Major employers who produce 8-12+ figure revenue numbers have too much infrastructure to risk extending the HR department as a whole into organizational peacekeeper. Such is why unions / labor relations has become the evasive passion fruit among the contemporary workforce.
Here enters the HRBP... the best option non unionized organizations have to improve the image of HR while advancing operational performance.

I couldn’t agree more with this post when I saw it. Often I believe people only acknowledge the resource side of us, HR, and yes, they forget we are human. You can’t have one without the other but not all HR professionals are not the same. I’ve seen legalistic robotic HR professionals and I’ve seen the empathetic, compassionate individual who while enforcing and doing all their HR duties, they can connect with people on so many different levels.
We live in a society that now more than ever empathy, compassion and understanding is needed, and we must give it. However, from an HR perspective I often wonder what is more important to people; the human, being a resource or both? Often people are more of a resource and fail being a human to humans.
Being a Human Resource professional isn’t always easy but it is easy for others to judge when they are not always aware of all that is involved, the behind the scenes, the unspoken words, things we’re not able to share, discuss and we often deal with it alone at times.
When you walk by HR, say “thank you” because you don’t know what their day was like. But HR professionals, when your’re speaking to an employee, remember you don’t know always know their challenges. It’s ok to take our HR hats off every once in a while and connect with the people/person from a human perspective. Use every opportunity to influence!

I think one of the reasons HR is seen as an antagonistic figure in the workplace narrative is because they are seen as being on the “employer’s side.”
There should be no sides and even if so the employers should be just as interested in the satisfaction of its employees but this is not always the case.
Unfortunately, a lot of roles have gotten a bad name simply through the lens of an employee’s past experience. If the HR team was bad or the employers were not doling out the best initiatives to support the workforce (and made HR the scapegoat), then HR is going to be perceived as inherently “bad.”
A way to change this narrative is first by talking about it. Frequent employee engagement surveys and a regular cadence of town halls have opened the dialogue for many companies at varying sizes
Next there needs to be systematic layers of support to not only “do the right thing” but also “do no harm.”
What I mean by that is that although you can not make everyone happy you can definitely work to make sure there is no harm done to the health and wellbeing of your employees. Even in times of hard decision making there is still a way for raises and time off and even appropriate layoffs to happen in a mindful manner.

This just reminds us HR professionals how all over the world, we are all dealing with the same dynamic on the integration standpoint with our coworkers.
The other thing is that we are not only sitting alone on the right bench belonging to workers. On the other left one where rumors say that we are fully engaged in the management team, there is often the same dynamic, mainly when its time to advocate for employees.
So its just a matter of fact, stigmatisation will end only when you retire 🙂. For everyone who decided to embrace this profession, it is to acknowledge this challenge and simply rely on your work ethic and the main purpose of this discipline, creating a SUSTAINABLE healthy and performing working environment that will protect workers and business rights.

Someone has got to be at the receiving end of the frustrations, anger, misunderstanding, and at times, sheer ignorance.
But not the Executives.
Not the Management.
The only people qualified for everything wrong, and blameworthy for everything else are...your guess is as good as mine.
