The ACE championships is a racing series which promotes zero-emission motorsport, as well as a platform which encourages young drivers (15-25 years old) to get into motorsport. This organisation has commissioned Quantron hydrogen, who will supply its hydrogen fuel cell trucks to the zero emission race series, for the 2024/25 season, in order to benefit the environment. The electric race series, wanted to use the QHM FCEV AERO trucks in order to ensure the championship logistics had as minimal effect on the environment as possible. The article below highlights how it is possible for every sector of every industry to be more conscious of their impact on the environment, just as the racing sector of the transport and mobility industry has done. 🔶Hydro-Powered Speed: Extreme H Races to New Heights!🔶 The electric car racing series, Extreme E, is shifting gears to hydrogen-powered cars, rebranding as Extreme H starting April 2025. With 10 rounds of racing in five locations, including Saudi Arabia, the UK, Germany, Italy, and the USA, Extreme H aims to be the future of sustainable motorsport. Carlos Sainz Sr., co-founder of the Acciona | Sainz XE team, expressed excitement about this hydrogen venture. Formula E has already shown the success of electric racing, gaining support from F1 champions like Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, and Lewis Hamilton since its launch in 2021. Now, with Extreme H, motorsport is taking another step towards sustainability. Meanwhile, Formula 1 plans to go carbon neutral by 2030, but can they really achieve it? The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has said it will focus efforts on the development and promotion of liquid hydrogen storage solutions across different disciplines and competitions. Following the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on Wednesday (February 28), the world motorsport body has said it will continue development of #hydrogen-fuelled power units across disciplines, with a focus on liquid hydrogen. It comes as part of the FIA’s energy transition roadmap to gradually introduce sustainable power sources into motorsport. The FIA has said given #liquidhydrogen tank characteristics, lower volume and weight compared to gaseous hydrogen tanks, it is “better suited to the demanding environment of motorsport competitions.” It added, the use of liquid hydrogen storage allows the #powertrain layout to remain closer to conventional combustion-powered cars, compared to vehicles accommodating compressed tanks. Under the plans, Extreme H could become an FIA Championship in its inaugural 2025 season before becoming an FIA World Championships from 2026 if criteria is met. Commenting on the plans, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, said, “Using sustainable power sources in motorsport is the key objective of the FIA and part of our long-term strategy, and this series is an ideal showcase for that. “Hydrogen is an important part of that mix, and we have developed a set of safety regulations for hydrogen-powered vehicles which is part of the FIA’s International Sporting Code.” #LH2 #hydrogen #LiquidHydrogen

Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-powered motor racing championship, will commence from 2025. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the FIA Formula One World Championship and Extreme H have announced plans to establish a joint Hydrogen Working Group. The group will evaluate developments and potential applications for hydrogen within motorsport and wider mobility. The objective of the Hydrogen Working Group is to monitor the progression and development of hydrogen technology – both for the fuel cells and battery systems which will be used in Extreme H’s first-generation racing chassis – as well as hydrogen technology within race site infrastructure, transportation, charging, storage and management, and its safety implications. This is a significant step towards sustainable mobility and highlights the importance of hydrogen technology in the future of motorsports. 🏎️🌱https://hubs.ly/Q02dcVhB0

Meanwhile, F1 is considering to develop the sustainable fuel with hydrogen in 2030 onwards, does it hint that hydrogen-powered racing is the future? It will be interesting to see whether Formula E can maintain their competitive advantage in sustainable racing and how they're gonna position the sport against other series.

Formula 1, motorsport governing body FIA and a rebranded Extreme H series announced they are setting up a joint hydrogen working group to evaluate the technology's future use. The Extreme E electric off-road series, featuring teams owned by F1 champions Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg, has been rebranded Extreme H, which will switch to hydrogen from 2025.
