From The Independent reviving this oldie but goodie I wrote in February 2020, ahead of the 2020 US elections. In it, I argue: "If a Democratic candidate is elected to be the United States’ 47th president on November 3rd, it will be despite [the] unresolved intra-party struggle." What we have come to remember of the 2020 race was the #pandemic overhang, the close election result, January 6th and all things #electionintegrity. Yet, there is another lesser noticed trend-line that remains salient for the #2024 #USelections: the question of party (dis)unity. Last time around, President Biden emerged from a wide field of primary entrants, sidestepping the question of what next for the progressive wing of the party. Now with the #israelhamaswar and #foreignpolicy on everyone's mind, polarized US voters will confront head-on the state of party politics in America. #geopolitics #risk
Opinion: Democrats don't realize they've set themselves up to fail against Trump in November

I had breakfast this morning with a group of delegates from California & North Carolina. We had a very fascinating conversation about the congressional redistricting that occurred in the state of North Carolina and the implications for the United States at large. Despite anyone’s feelings about gerrymandering, it is truly a politicians most powerful tool when it comes to winning elections. For those of you unfamiliar with North Carolina’s situation, let me break it down. Jeff Jackson a young democratic member of congress decided not to run for reelection after his office was redistricted by other congressional republicans. Instead he is now in the running for NC Attourney General once his time in congress ends. I like Jeff; he’s young, honest, & bold- he’s also a veteran. I consider myself an independent, and at breakfast I asked about California’s board of elections. While technically the State of CA Board of Elections is independent, everyone and their mother knows California is anything but an independent state. That being said, if North Carolina had an independent board, Jeff Jackson could’ve possibly spent more time in the house. The thing about having independent boards is that they provide a buffer to force certain rules for decisions, such as gerrymandering, to take place. Gerrymandering is like a game of chess where the board is constantly being reshaped to favor one player over another. It’s a way of manipulating district boundaries to ensure a particular political outcome, often skewing representation in favor of those who control the redistricting process. Now if I was the candadite running to replace Jeff Jackson what would I do? Because district schedules have changed, you have to force your opponents party to spend more money elsewhere. That means propping up another campaign in another district, almost a financial distraction to restrict another campaign’s cash flow. It’s an interesting thought, I think. What’re your thoughts on gerrymandering; should we keep it around or change it? #NorthCarolina #America #Election #Trump2024 #Harris2024 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee

What I Think About Biden Stepping Down in Favor of Kamala Harris for the 2024 Elections From a political strategist's perspective, the numbers don't lie. Both Biden and the American public have had ample opportunity to review numerous sociological studies indicating his almost impossible chances of defeating Trump. Following the Republican convention, which I have analyzed in separate posts, it's clear that the Republicans have strengthened their position. For example, the introduction of J.D. Vance as a candidate will resonate in key battleground states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Additionally, the apparent unity among all candidates around Trump, evidenced by the appearances of Nikki Haley and other former critics now supporting him, further consolidates their strength. Within the Democratic Party, a long-prepared decision has come to fruition. I am aware of extensive discussions between key Democratic leaders in Congress and Biden. I believe this decision is the right one. Again, the numbers don't lie. We can expect to see further messaging and team strategy unfold at the upcoming Democratic convention.

The Republican Party Nominating Convention is less than 7 weeks away from starting in Milwaukee. It might be worth keeping an eye on the following heading into that mid-July event. 1. Texas primary run-offs elections today. With 8 US House races in play today, it's important to remember Texas Republicans will play a big role in November. Today's outcome in 3 Republican races could shift dynamics later. 2. Favorable trial verdict in NY. If Trump prevails, expect an even more emboldened Trump making up for lost time on the campaign trail. If he loses, we may have a redux of "stolen election style" rhetoric even with a possible gag order. 3. Juneteenth. With the recent pushback on DEI initiatives both on and off campus, this newest federal holiday offers Trump an even bigger chance to broaden support among minority groups and offer clear alternatives to Biden policies. 4. VP and Cabinet wannabes outwardly making their case and auditioning. Selecting 1 VP candidate maybe easy for Trump ala The Apprentice model. But he may run into trouble down the road selecting cabinet members. Under Trump, cabinet secretary can be a thankless job and probably doesn't bolster one's resume for the future. #2024election #elections #RNC #trump
