This week (January 29) marks the start of the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Snake – and we wish our teammates at the ABC Shanghai Technical Center and those of Chinese heritage around the world an exciting celebration of this Lunar New Year. In Chinese culture, red is the color of good fortune, courage, strength, and prosperity. Each bode well for ABC as we enter 2025 by expanding our presence in Asia later this year with the pending approval of our acquisition of TI Fluid Systems, which has multiple locations in China.

Are you interested in an index that ranks and scores a countries measure of power? The Lowy Institute Asia Power Index has a ton of information that can help you do just that. Easily one of the best ranking platforms I've found. About me below. 👇 The Asia Power Index, launched by the Lowy Institute in 2018, measures resources and influence to rank the relative power of states in Asia. The project maps out the existing distribution of power as it stands today, and tracks shifts in the balance of power over time. The Index ranks 27 countries and territories in terms of their capacity to shape their external environment — its scope reaching as far west as Pakistan, as far north as Russia, and as far into the Pacific as Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. The 2024 edition includes Timor-Leste for the first time, reflecting its growing importance as a result of likely accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in coming years. The project evaluates international power in Asia through 131 indicators across eight thematic measures: military capability and defence networks, economic capability and relationships, diplomatic and cultural influence, as well as resilience and future resources. More than half the data points draw from original Lowy Institute research, while the rest are aggregated from hundreds of publicly available national and international sources. #osint #china #ccp #intelligence #defence #intel #pai #asia

Blaine Curcio The Robotic China didn't advance robotics to exclude human beings from work, but She made the Chinese work in making commercial robots. The big consumers find it cheaper than those made in other countries. Knowing what the future needs, the Chinese do it now.

China and Kazakhstan are discussing the possibility of commercial use of one another's spaceports 🇨🇳 🇰🇿 The obvious play here is for the plethora of Kazakh commercial launch companies to set up shop in Wenchang...kidding. But really, absent of Kazakh companies coming to China, this is going to be one-way traffic on the ground, and maybe good for both parties: 🚀 Lots of Chinese commercial launch companies might get another option for spaceport, i.e. Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Unclear how easy it would be to retrofit the spaceport, what launch cadence would be possible, etc., but in theory it could happen 🇰🇿 🇷🇺 Kazakhstan becomes a bit less reliant on Russia. Again, KZ is home to few launch companies, so to now most demand at Baikonur has been Russian. Diversifying demand there cannot be a bad thing for Kazakh bargaining power 💲 Probably, Kazakhstan will make some money on this, and Chinese launch companies might save a bit of money, all else equal due to more competition #ChinaSpaceGuy https://lnkd.in/gWPFKRWy

Following the explosion of the Tianlong-3 launch vehicle this weekend, I’ve been reflecting on the broader context of China's space ambitions. I had the pleasure of attending the recent Space Capital Summit, where an insightful panel discussion delved into the Chinese space industry. I will link the full video here, but I wanted to share some key insights, in case you don’t have 42 minutes available just now. Rapid Growth and Investment: China and the US accounted for 80% of total orbital launches in 2023. Over the last decade, 75% of total space industry funding came from these two countries. Commercial and State-Owned Dynamics: The Chinese space sector is a mix of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and commercial players. While SOEs like CASC and CASIC dominate, commercial entities are rapidly innovating and pushing the industry forward. Technological Ambitions: China's goals include building large-scale satellite constellations and reusable launch systems like the Long March 9. These efforts aim to establish China as a leading space power by 2049. Strategic Priorities: Viewing space assets as critical infrastructure, China prioritizes funding and development to drive their long-term goals of cislunar presence and space-based solar power. Whether or not you agree with how Chinese companies and their government are driving progress in their initiatives for space, the truth is that they have many big players over there, only outpaced by the likes of SpaceX in fact. We need to keep our eyes on developments in their neck of the woods in order to learn things for ourselves; whether it be how to do things or how not to do them… We’ll see! https://lnkd.in/gkbGuNyn
