Mr. Jama Ayaanle Feyte is “WADDANI” Somaliland National Party Shadow Secretary in charge of Coordination with United Nations and International Organizations | Horn Africa security experts
The Somaliland government has declared success in managing its airspace, claiming effective service provision to a multitude of aircraft. However, amidst this assertion, tensions have surged as the Somaliland Aviation and Airports Authority refutes allegations of airspace disruption by the Somali government. Somaliland also alleged Somalia's civil aviation authority's involvement in the killing of one of its employees named Abdinasir Muse Dahable. Reports emerging over the weekend reveal a troubling scenario within the Mogadishu FIR, with nearly a dozen aircraft reportedly contacted by unauthorized controllers, issuing conflicting instructions. Instances of unauthorized climb and descent clearances, particularly prevalent in the northern part of Somali airspace, spotlight the ongoing political discord between Somaliland and Somalia. Despite Somaliland's lack of international recognition, both entities vie for control over the airspace.

Aviation: Airlines avoid Iranian airspace, hiking up flight times and fuel costs (alongside avoiding Russian airspace). Airlines are making significant adjustments to their flight paths, largely avoiding Iranian airspace. This shift, driven by rising concerns over potential retaliatory attacks, is leading to longer flight times and increased fuel costs for airlines. According to FlightRadar24, many carriers are opting for northern routes through Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, while others are taking southern paths over Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The recent ballistic missile attack from Iran to Israel has further complicated operations, resulting in flight cancellations and delays. Despite these challenges, some airlines are cautiously resuming operations, with Lufthansa recently announcing the return of flights to Erbil and the use of Jordanian airspace. However, routes to Tel Aviv, Beirut, and Tehran remain suspended as safety remains a priority. https://shorturl.at/MQiig Have you been impacted? #Aviation #Airlines #MiddleEast #FlightSafety #TravelIndustry #AviationNews #Geopolitics
