A very impressive start to the second day of Internship Experience UK 2024 - Biggest Internship Programme in the UK!🎉✅ Firstly, we began with a very powerful keynote from Laura Tye who is the legal director at Clyde & Co, who talked about her remarkable journey to her current role. Overview: This exhibited her resilience and how she seized every opportunity. She also depicted how Flexibility is significant. One of my favorite sections of today was having the privilege of hearing from Victoria Stedman who is a Commercial Colleague Engagement Manager at British Airways which was facilitated by Rachel Delaney who was Head of B2C Marketing at Bright Network. - This was one of my favorites as there were so many key highlights and challenges. - Highlights: British Airways (BA)Commercial Vision: A united team delivering an industry-leading revenue margin through brilliant service. - Challenges: Labelling economic instability, airspace closures, climate change, and other dynamics of business traveling. After this, we had an impactful session with Daisy Thompson (Sales Sustainability Lead, Past Graduate at Nestle) and Juetong Lang who gave us a true insight into Sustainability and Perspectives of Innovation. 1. The significance of Sustainability in the Food Sector? - Environmentally: One-third of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food systems. - Socially she addressed issues like child labor, access to education, forced labor, gender equity, and more. - Always collaborating with customers through sharing learnings, executing sustainability, and upskilling teams. 2. The Significance of Innovation Product & Technology Development - focusing as much as possible on health and competency building by integrating with process components. Competitiveness - Enhancing competition and protecting the environment with drive and growth. Nestle emphasizes a rigorous multifactional cooperative effort to create quickly, from idea to reality. Additionally, we subsequently had a meeting with Marie Fukuura, Commerical Controller, Off-Trade, Premium Retail for Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I. Her session was so effective and truly eye-opening. Key things that were outlined by her were to: 1. Lead & Grow the Category 2. Optimize Businesses 3. Digitize & Monetize our Ecosystem With one of the biggest B2B platforms globally, despite heavy challenges like lockdown, instability, and even inflation, beers remain the most affordable and beloved product across all demographics. As this empathizes the significance of a WINNING Portfolio as the insights today underscore the dynamic landscape of this industry! 🎉Part 2 of Second Day of Internship Experience UK 2024 at Bright Network : ✨ The day continued with an informative talk from Marie Fukuura, Commercial Controller, Off-Trade, Premium Retail at Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, a proud part of AB InBev. As the world’s biggest brewer, Budweiser Brewing Group is known for brewing the world’s most-loved beers, building iconic brands, and creating meaningful experiences for people to come together. Marie Fukuura's Key Insights: -Emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced industry. -Highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. -Encouraged us to take advantage of opportunities for career growth and personal development within the organization. ✨ Aileen Nathan, Senior Sales Director at Mondelēz International: Aileen, with over two decades of experience in Sales, Brand Management, and General Management at Procter & Gamble and Mondelez, shared her extensive knowledge. She has a consistent track record of turning around struggling categories and leading effective, diverse teams. We absolutely loved her friendly approach. Today I took part in the 2nd day of the 4 day IEUK 2024 virtual internship programme for Business, Operations, Marketing. Today was a busy day, with a variety of helpful sessions that focused on introducing the world of work and the big businesses that are apart of it. Key Takeaways: First session - Keynote talk with Laura Tye, a Legal director in the insurance and financial disputes sector: 💡 The journey from education to a career is dynamic and ever-changing. 💡Tips to succeed in your career - Resilience, confidence, curiosity, ambition and finally, that nothing is fixed in your career. Second session - Sector 101 with Vicky Steadman, a Commercial Colleague Engagement Manager at British Airways: 💡The depth of big company's such as British Airways is enormous. 💡The role of the commercial team in generating revenues while enhancing customer experiences, and the ways to excel at this. 💡The challenges faced by man businesses such as geopolitical conflicts and economic instability, and how to solve them. 💡Top tip to put yourself out there and grasp all opportunities when building a career. Session 3-7 - Sector Specialist talks: ✨ Nestle - Daisy Thompson (Sales sustainability lead) and Juetong Laing (Product Technology Engineering Graduate) ✨Budweiser - Marie Fukuura (Commercial Controller, Off-Trade) ✨Mondelez International - Aileen Nathan (Senior Sales Director) ✨Alpha Insights - Charles Frost (Client Development Manager) ✨Bright Network - Lydia Cronin (Lead Generation Manager) 💡These sessions all provided valuable insights into the different business's out there and how they all function in their respective sectors. 💡I learnt about the interconnectedness of business's and the relationship between different operation teams. 💡The different roles available for graduates and the ways to secure them effectively. 🌟A personal highlight for me - the difference between B2B and B2C marketing, as well as the importance of demand generation in marketing. Final session - Graduate office hours - Opportunity to ask industry employees questions - British Airways, Alpha Sights, P&G, PWC, Budweiser, Mondelez International, ICAEW and Nestle 💡This session provided incredibly useful insights into the skills employers are looking for in many industries related to business, operations and marketing. 💡Insider information on how to succeed in interviews and the application process in general. Today was a blast, and I can't wait to learn more and develop more skills on day 3!

❗ IEUK Day 2 Wrap Up (Part One)❗ Currently enjoying another insightful day into many different sectors with talks from the specialists. Thank you to Rachel Delaney for being an amazing host! ⭐ To kick off day 2, Laura Tye (Clyde & Co) shared her highs and lows of working in Law. She emphasised the importance of staying resilient and staying curious when identifying where you want your career to go! ⭐ The first sector specialist session was run by Victoria Stedman (British Airways) who was an excellent speaker talking about her role as Commercial Colleague Engagement Manager and who British Airways are. It was fascinating to learn about their key challenges, such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts, and what solutions they are putting in place to overcome them! This session also highlighted BA's commercial transformation and 📝 My key takeaway from the talk was: - Do not be afraid to put yourself out there and ask silly questions! Be curious and learn about people's backgrounds and experiences! ⭐ We were then joined by Daisy Thompson and Juetong Liang from Nestlé who focused on the importance of sustainability. This session helped foster my passion for sustainability and I was interested to know more about the role of sustainability within the business. ♻ 🌞 Key points I found interesting from the talk: - One-third of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food systems. - Food sectors has more workers than any other sectors. - Nestlé's importance on volunteering meaning all employees have two volunteering days per year! ⭐ Insights from Marie Fukuura (AB InBev) who provided a brilliant insight into Budweiser and her journey into landing the role she has today! She managed many difficulties and obstacles by having a solid and professional network! 🍻 Key points I found interesting from the talk: - Despite the difficulties of lockdown, shortages, instability and inflation, beer, within the BWS category, is still growing and currently is the largest single category! - How the company is ensuring the category is safe, sustainable and inclusive through campaigns such as "Stops With Me". - Interesting facts about AB InBev, one being they have leading operation margins with 50 billion in revenue to date! ✔ Overall, today's talks so far have been extremely insightful and it is useful to learn about the different sectors within this internship. It's been a little over a week since I completed the Internship Experience UK program, and I can't stop thinking about the incredible journey. Now that I've had time to process everything, I wanted to share some reflections on this eye-opening experience, joining the Business, Operations & Marketing pathway. Those four days were intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. I've learned so much about putting myself out there, seizing opportunities, and the importance of starting from where you are. I also got the chance to work on a brief sample which provided firsthand experience on what to expect on the field. A few key takeaways that have stuck with me: - Networking is crucial - and it doesn't have to be scary! - Curiosity is a superpower in the business world - There's immense value in feedback and self-reflection Big thanks to Bright Network for organizing this, and to all the amazing companies that participated - the insights from Mondelēz International PwC, and British Airways were particularly valuable. To my fellow participants: you all inspired me with your questions and enthusiasm. Let's stay connected! I'm excited to apply these learnings as I move forward in my career journey. From consulting projects in Colombia 🇨🇴 to international internships with companies across North America 🌎, to internships, projects and placements with 200+ socially impactful businesses based in the UK 🇬🇧, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with University deans, careers and employability leaders, and programme directors to truly scale work-based learning 🚀. Bright Network Internship Experience 2024 DAY 2: The second day of the internship was very intense and insightful. The whole session was hosted by Rachel Delaney Head of Marketing Bright Network. The second day kicked off with Laura Tye from Clyde & Co sharing some great tips on how to build a successful career 🚀 👉 Resilience is a key 👉 You are never overprepared 👉 Only you can sell you 👉 Be curious & take as many opportunities as you can The later part of the session was sector focused on Business, Operations & Marketing: The first guest was Victoria Stedman (Corporate colleague Engagement Officer) from British Airways - Gave a brief on the background of British Airways and some of the key challenges that the company has gone through after COVID-19 and how they are trying to overcome them. - She also shared the specific skills required to work at British Airways. The second guest was Daisy Thompson and Juetong Liang from Nestlé where they discussed on Sustainability in the FMCG industry. - The key points include Nestlé's sustainability strategies and how they are taking various steps to increase sustainability. - Moreover, the talk also involved various R&D done by the company to increase sustainability. Next, the third guest was Marie Fukuura from AB InBev where she discussed: - AB's evolution and how they have acquired other brands. - She also talked about the 10 principles that the company follows. The fourth guest was Aileen Nathan from Mondelēz International where she went in depth with her role as a Commercial Director. Some of the key learnings were: - Working in sales requires talking to customers every time to understand what they are looking for. She also recommended a book: How to Influence Friends & Family for anyone who wants to build a career in Sales. The fifth guest was Charles Frost from AlphaSights who talked about An Introduction to Sales (B2B) - He went in-depth about the work they do at AlphaSights and it was quite fun and informative session. - He also discussed the 5 sales executive traits from the book The Challenger Sale. Lastly, the session ended with Lydia Cronin from Bright Network sharing in detail about Demand Generation: - She shared the difference between demand generation marketing vs other marketing channels. - She also talked about the various roles to work in demand generation.
