Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare genetic skin disorder. Children are born without collagen VII. That particular protein helps skin stay on the body. Without it, skin is fragile, it blisters and causes extreme pain every day. September 24 is Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) Awareness Day. This article sheds light on this serious genetic condition that can lead to devastating heart problems if left undiagnosed. FH often goes undetected, leaving many patients without the early intervention that could save their lives. The article shares the story of 1 patient who went undiagnosed until suffering a heart attack at 35 years of age. The opioid epidemic has taken too many lives. Scientists like Emma Johnson, Simon Haroutounian, and Arpana Agrawal at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis are doing their part to find a solution. Their research aims to develop #polygenicriskscores for chronic pain and opioid use disorder (OUD), enabling clinicians to one day more effectively manage and prevent post-surgical pain, as well as providing a resource for stratification of high-risk individuals who may develop OUD alongside chronic pain. Made possible, in part, by Illumina's Infinium microarrays! https://lnkd.in/g9qw_F9K

Haemophilia is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the body's inability to properly clot blood. There are two main types: haemophilia A, which is a deficiency in clotting factor VIII, and haemophilia B, which is a deficiency in clotting factor IX. These deficiencies can lead to prolonged bleeding episodes, both internally and externally, even from minor injuries. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, depending on the level of clotting factor present. Treatment often involves replacement therapy with clotting factor concentrates to help the blood clot more effectively and prevent bleeding episodes. While there's no cure, with proper management, people with haemophilia can lead active and fulfilling lives.#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking.
