Do you think shaking is one of the easy ways of calming a crying baby? Then you need to reassess and understand about Shaken baby syndrome (SBS). A newborn or young infant violently shaken may have traumatic brain damage (SBS). It can result in bleeding, bruising, and swelling as the brain bounces back and forth against the skull. Let’s read my article to get a comprehensive view about SBS. #medicalwriting #scientificwriting #Healthawareness #Babysyndrome #Prevention #Traumaticbrain #Childabuse #Headinjury #Therapy

What do steering wheels and overwhelmed, young parents have in common? They both contribute to a specific type of traumatic brain injury (TBI), called a Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI). 🔁 It's what happens when your noggin moves really fast in one direction, and suddenly reverses course. Or changes direction. 🍧 Imagine your brain as a bowl of Jell-O with tiny, delicate wires running through it. These wires are like neurons, the fragile fibers that help different parts of the brain communicate with each other. 🍧Now, picture what happens if you suddenly shake the bowl of Jell-O really hard. The Jell-O might stay mostly intact, but the wires inside get stretched and pulled in different directions. Some wires might get damaged, torn, or even disconnected completely. This is similar to what happens in a diffuse axonal injury. The sudden, strong movement of the brain inside the skull—like in a car accident or a fall—causes widespread damage to these neurons, disrupting the brain's ability to send and receive signals properly. Even though you can't see the damage as clearly as in other types of brain injuries, the impact on brain function can be significant. 🚗 While you were spell checking that text, the person in front of you stopped short. Now your head is accelerating toward the steering wheel as though it wants to test the metaphysical rule of impenetrability*. This is an example of an acceleration-deceleration accident that causes DAIs. 👼 Another example would be Shaken Baby Syndrome. The infant's head whips back and forth, tethered by that fragile neck and weak neck muscles, causing the brain to hit the inside of the skull. The neurons in their lil bowl of Jell-O are tearing apart. 🧠It is estimated that 10%-50% of patients who are admitted to the hospital with a TBI have a diffuse axonal injury. 🧠 Not all diffuse axons injuries have the same outcome. If you're lucky, you'll just have temporary brain damage. If you're less lucky, it'll be permanent and widespread. Or you might go into a coma. 💀 Approximately 25% of patients admitted to the hospital with a DAI will die from their injuries. 💜 So don't text and drive. Always remember to use birth control. Maybe offer to babysit for that young mom who doesn't have much time to sleep. You could change the course of someone's life 💜 *The quality of matter whereby two bodies cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
