Sylvie Fodor m’a invité à animer une table ronde sur la monétisation du contenu à l’heure de l’IA (générative) lors du congrès annuel du CEPIC , mercredi, à Juan Les pins.
Le CEPIC est un regroupement d’acteurs de l’industrie de la création (en particulier d’images et de photos) qui défend leurs intérêts, et qui a, notamment, obtenu des GAFAMS qu’ils ne pillent leur patrimoine.
Évidemment, actuellement, l’IA est au centre des préoccupations.
Les trois personnes que j’ai interrogées durant cette table ronde m’ont permis d’apprécier la façon dont l’industrie de la photo/image s’adapte face à la déferlante de l’IAG.
James Allsworth Allsworth, Head of Content d’Alamy , une marketplace où les entreprises achètent les droits d’utilisation de photos, images, vidéos ou news, fabriqués par des créatifs, a expliqué qu’Alamy n’acceptait pas d’images ou vidéos générées par l’IA et mise un peu plus qu’auparavant sur les images d’actualité, par définition, peu en concurrence avec l’IAG. Il prédit une baisse des ventes des contenus facilement copiables par l’IA comme des photos de produits / objets / fruits courants sur fond blanc.
Martin LeBlanc , chief product manager de Freepik , un service offrant des outils aux créatifs pour optimiser leurs images, a expliqué que, pour lui, la capacité de produire des images en grande quantité ne suffisait pas à générer des revenus car , compte-tenu de la chaîne de valeur de l’image, plus que jamais, la maîtrise de la distribution est capitale. De la part d’un profil technique de haut niveau et spécialiste des marketplaces, cette remarque n’est pas inintéressante.
L’ensemble des participants s’accordent sur le fait que les oeuvres « manuelles » des “vrais” créatifs seront encore longtemps demandées, dans un contexte où la demande globale pour les images/ vidéos se développe vite.
Autre sujet de concorde: la vente de licence aux sociétés qui créent des modèles lors de la phase d’entraînement des modèles devient aujourd’hui une source de revenus importante des créateurs et les plateformes proposent, en option, aux créateurs/photographes s’ils souhaitent que leurs œuvres permettent d’entraîner contre rémunération les futurs modèles de Midjourney, d’OpenAI…
Mais, les « foundation models », qui savent déjà générer la plupart des images courantes, sont de plus en plus à la recherche d’images spécifiques qu’ils ne savent pas encore générer.
Et, attention, le nombre de foundation models capables de payer pour des données n’est pas très important.
Enfin, tous constatent que la pression à la baisse sur les prix ( des licences d’utilisation des images/photos) qui pré-existait l’IA generative, se poursuit. Notons d’ailleurs que de nombreux acteurs de la filière avaient déjà disparu avant l’émergence de l’IA generative.
