In 2023, several research papers addressed the alarming rise of HIV cases in Pakistan and the associated challenges. These papers highlighted the increasing incidence of HIV in the country, the need for policy modifications to enhance HIV prevention, and the importance of raising awareness among high-risk populations, such as injecting drug users and sex workers. The surge of diagnosed HIV cases in Pakistan has raised questions about the prevention and control of HIV, emphasizing the significance of public health interventions and the urgent need for national policymakers to take solid measures to address the situation. The literature emphasizes the critical importance of modifying Pakistan's policies, particularly those related to HIV prevention, and the need to update HIV/AIDS control programs and build anti-retroviral therapy centers in every district with state-of-the-art facilities. The research papers underscore the challenges posed by the lack of awareness, low literacy rates, and the practice of unhygienic equipment in healthcare settings, and they provide future recommendations to address these issues. The findings reflect the pressing need for concerted efforts to combat the HIV epidemic in Pakistan. #WorldAIDSDay #AIDSAwareness #EndAIDS #GettingToZero #AIDSFreeGeneration #AIDS2015 (or respective years for specific events) #HIVPrevention #AIDSResearch #HIVTreatment #AIDSEducation #AIDSAction #AIDSSupport #GlobalHealth #AIDSCare #AIDSAdvocacy

Empowering Choices for Public Health: Strategies for HIV Prevention In the fight against HIV, education and access to resources are key. At EHAI Nigeria, we are committed to raising awareness about effective prevention methods: 1. Safer Sex Practices: Consistent condom use, limiting sexual partners, and encouraging open communication with partners about HIV status are crucial for overall sexual health and HIV prevention. 2. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): This medication can be a powerful tool for individuals at high risk of HIV infection. We support efforts to increase access to PrEP for those who need it most. 3. Harm Reduction Programs: Providing clean needles and syringes to people who inject drugs plays a vital role in preventing needle-sharing and subsequent HIV transmission. 4. Preventing Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT): Antiretroviral therapy for pregnant women living with HIV can significantly reduce the risk of passing the virus to their babies. We advocate for comprehensive PMTCT programs to ensure healthy outcomes for mothers and children. Getting tested for HIV is critical for early detection and treatment. Today i have the privilege to present this abstract at #AIDS2024. Our analysis revealed that adolescent and young people as well females of reproductive age are found with higher proportion of recent HIV infection in Zambia. This data correlates with findings from the 2021 Population based HIV Impact Assessment that shows high HIV incidence among female, adolescent and young people. While further analyses are needed to better understand social demographic factors linked with HIV transmission in this population, findings from this study justifies the urge to scale up age and population specific HIV prevention interventions in Zambia.

COVID-19 severely disrupted HIV treatment and services around the world. Africa, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the people living with HIV worldwide, was disproportionately affected. The pandemic further revealed the vulnerability of young women and girls to HIV exposure. Globally, an estimated 4,000 young #women and #girls acquire HIV every week. However, in sub-Saharan Africa, only 42% of districts with HIV incidence (> 0.3%) have dedicated HIV prevention programs for adolescent girls and young women. ⚠️ #Fem4PeoplesVaccine calls for future pandemic responses to have an intersectional approach that considers both existing vulnerabilities related to living with HIV and the different forms of inequities people face when accessing healthcare. Learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on HIV treatment and services 🖼️⬇️ 🎨 @helodangelo #vaccineaccess #vaccineequity #PLHIV #pandemictreaty

Today's generation is making unprecedented strides in shattering societal norms and barriers, yet there is one area that can't be neglected: HIV/AIDS awareness. Here's why this is of utmost importance: ❤️ The youth, who represent the future of our world, account for a staggering 25% of new HIV infections globally. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for intervention. ❤️ Providing comprehensive and honest sex education is crucial. It empowers young people to understand the risks and consequences of their actions, enabling them to make informed, responsible choices about their sexual health. ❤️ The fact that an undetectable viral load equates to an untransmittable virus is a game-changer in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This scientific breakthrough has the potential to drastically reduce new infections. ❤️ Despite advancements in medical treatments, stigma related to HIV/AIDS persists and continues to hurt those affected by the disease. It's time to rise and fight for equality and universal access to treatment, irrespective of one's social or economic status. ⚖️ Let's create a future where HIV is manageable, not a death sentence. Please share this, educate yourself on HIV/AIDS, and help end its stigma. Stand with us for HIV prevention, support 'U equals U', and fight HIV stigma. #HIVprevention #UequalsU #EndHIVStigma #youmattertous

Expanded access to #testing and #treatment for HIV has led to substantial reductions in HIV infections globally. Since 2010, new HIV infections have declined by 38%, from 2.1 million to 1.3 million in 2022. The United Nations has cited the global response to HIV and AIDS as a “success story”. 🌏 Global pandemics like COVID-19 should not erase gains in eliminating HIV as a public health threat. Future pandemic responses should learn from effective HIV policies and must consider the gender needs of women and girls. Globally, 46% of all new HIV infections were among women and girls. In sub-Saharan Africa, adolescent girls and young women are more than three times as likely to acquire HIV than men. #Fem4PeoplesVaccine calls for legislators and the global public health community to incorporate the lessons from the HIV response into future pandemic interventions. An intersectional approach that considers the #gender needs of marginalized groups and engages community members as experts rather than beneficiaries is essential to a fair and equitable pandemic response. 🎨 @helodangelo #vaccineaccess #vaccineequity #PLHIV #pandemictreaty #pandemicresponse

“Addressing inequalities within the HIV/AIDS response is critical and requires a multidisciplinary and multifactorial approach”. In the fight against HIV, inequalities around the world affect men and women differently. In places like Eastern Southern Africa, women are at a higher risk of getting HIV than men. These global differences are important to consider when planning how countries respond to HIV. Getting healthcare is different in rural and city areas, showing big differences between regions. National and international plans need to be specific and address the different problems faced by both men and women. Lorna Rothery shares more here: #HealthcareAccess #CulturalBarriers #HIVResponse

Tomorrow is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Did you know that in the U.S., women of color, especially Black and Hispanic women, are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS? According to the CDC: 🎗️In 2021, Black individuals ages 13+ represented 12% of the U.S. population, but accounted for 40% of people with HIV. 🎗️Hispanic/Latino individuals ages 13+ represented 18% of the population but accounted for 25% of people with HIV. 🎗️New HIV infections among Black women are 10 times that of white women and four times that of Latina women. We have effective prevention and treatment options, but they are not reaching people who could benefit most.
