Teaching is what I so love doing. It’s not just a profession; it’s a calling, a passion that burns bright within me every single day. Each moment spent in the classroom feels like an opportunity to shape young minds, to ignite curiosity, and to foster a love for learning that will last a lifetime. I believe that every teacher has the power to make a profound impact. Whether we realize it or not, we are shaping the future with every lesson, every word of encouragement, and every challenge we present to our students. It’s a responsibility that I take to heart because I understand the importance of education in empowering individuals and transforming communities. But as much as I cherish my role as an educator, I also recognize the invaluable contributions of indigenous teachers—our parents. They are the first teachers in our lives, imparting wisdom, values, and cultural heritage from the moment we are born. Their teachings lay the foundation upon which formal education builds. Honoring indigenous teachers means acknowledging the rich tapestry of knowledge and traditions they pass down through generations. It’s about celebrating diversity in learning styles and perspectives, and recognizing that there is wisdom to be gained from every culture and community. So, as I continue on this journey of teaching and learning, I carry with me a deep appreciation for the indigenous teachers who have shaped me and continue to inspire my approach to education. Teachers play a powerful and life-shaping role in our lives. It’s not just about providing education—teachers are the moral compasses that guide the next generation. When we think about what makes a great teacher, it's not only their qualifications that matter but also their values, empathy, and the strength of their character, tested and proven in real-world situations. Students are like young, tender saplings, and teachers are the gardeners who nurture their minds. Often, they become role models—the second parents outside the home. When teachers teach with fairness and compassion, leaving behind prejudice and bias, they plant seeds of hope in their students. These values will take root and grow strong. To all the teachers out there: I humbly ask that you continue to teach without discrimination, without bias, and without excluding any child. You are the pillars of tomorrow’s bright future. What does education mean to you? For me, it brings back memories of Molly Teacher. Despite struggling as a student, I remember how she always offered unconditional love and support, which gradually transformed my approach to learning. Her belief in me went beyond just helping me with math - it inspired me to believe in myself and pursue a path in teaching and counseling, where I could pass on the same encouragement to others. Educators, counselors, and mentors do more than teach, - They inspire curiosity,  - Offer emotional support, and  - Shape confidence and lifelong growth. Today, on International Day of Education, we celebrate a profound truth: Education isn’t just about mastering subjects. It’s about opening minds, expanding horizons, and guiding individuals toward discovering their unique potential. They’re red flags that your child’s education might be missing some key pieces of the puzzle. History isn’t a fairy tale. It’s complex, messy, and sometimes downright uncomfortable. But shying away from sensitive topics does a disservice to our children. We need classrooms that are honest, inclusive, and empower students to think critically. Let’s use these “quick points” as springboards for deeper discussions. Ask your child’s teacher about the curriculum. Are there diverse perspectives represented? Difficult conversations are how we learn and grow. Create a safe space for your child to ask questions. Together, let’s ensure our children get a well-rounded education. It's crucial to recognize the shortcomings in our educational systems. One major issue is the lack of alignment between curriculum and developmental stages. For instance, the approach for 5-year-olds should differ significantly from that for 10-year-olds due to their distinct developmental needs. Between ages 6-12, individuals are at their peak social development, yet traditional schooling often isolates students in desks. The American Emergent Curriculum stands out by incorporating group work throughout the day. This approach fosters understanding among students while engaging them in subject matter.
