Demystifying (or adding to confusion) 4G, 5G, 2.4Ghz 5Ghz. I came across this confusion where people confuse between 5G which is a GSM mobile technology (5th Generation) vs. the 5Ghz frequency for Wifi. Let's try to simplify: 4G and 5G are mobile standards. They stand for 4th Generation and 5th Generation. Discussion around their capabilities is beyond the scope of this post. - 5G works on 5G enabled phones and mobile operators giving you the upgrade to 5G, like Jio has done. 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are WiFi Frequency bands .. and they have *nothing to do* with the 4G and 5G of mobile networks! [Myth#1] For starters, 2.4Ghz is typically optimized for wider coverage while 5Ghz band has lower coverage area but optimized for speed. Ok, so let's add to the confusion now.... :-) - You can setup a Wifi Hotspot on your phone, either a 4G or a 5G phone. - Now the Hotspot can be configured to work on 2.4Ghz band or frequency or 5Ghz frequency. So, now you potentially have a 4G phone giving 5G(hz) signal! That doesn't make your phone 5G. [Myth#2] It simply means other devices can connect to your wifi hotspot using 5Ghz frequency. - Similarly you can setup a WiFi hotspot on your 5G mobile phone. The hotspot can be configured to run at 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. - Not many know that you can change the frequency band of your WiFi hotspot (2.4 or 5Ghz) by going into the Hotspot settings option on mobile phones. That's that. Hope this provides some clarity or adds to confusion, whichever way you like... 😊 #5Gvs5Ghz #hotspot #wifi #wifi-bands
