From the desk of Dr. Gerilyn Davis: Happy Friday!! I hope you are having a maximized end to the week. As the Olympics finalizes, I love witnessing people leveling up by giving it all they have. In Phase Five: Daily Assessment of the SWORD Inclusion System, we recognize the value of each day that we are more inclusive. We gave it what we had. Here are a few tweaks we make in our interactions. --- TALK WITH VERSUS AT EACH OTHER: Effective communication begins by building on each other’s ideas to ensure we are clear on our stances. --- MEETINGS WITH AN OUTCOME: Meetings are more effective because they are inclusive. We get things done because we know who can do it! --- ACCOUNTABILITY FOLLOW-UP: We support each other in reaching the goals that we co-create. Inclusion matters because we can accomplish so much with it. I’ve lost count of the transformations I witness. We kicked off 2024 with a bang by celebrating our first Unconscious Bias Awareness Month at Wipfli. 🎉 Our associates completed two courses that helped them understand the importance of unconscious bias and how they can contribute to a more inclusive and respectful culture. They also learned some practical strategies to identify and challenge their own biases in the workplace. The growing recognition of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within companies has sparked inquiries into how the four styles of the DISC model (Eagles, Parrots, Doves, and Owls) intersect with DEI principles. Both DEI and the DISC styles emphasize the fundamental notion of accepting and valuing individuals for their differences, rather than making judgments based on those differences. Organizations undertaking DEI initiatives should strive to empower individuals to embrace their authentic selves.
