In the few weeks I've spent working on the PLI project, I've learned that most Nigerians are passionate about their culture and heritage. However, many lack the means to connect properly with their source. This is especially true for Nigerians in the diaspora. In recent years, more and more Nigerians abroad have made efforts to connect with their origin through: 🔸 Donning Nigerian outfits and styles 🔸 Vibing to Afrobeats 🔸 Trying out Nigerian dishes 🔸 Visiting and touring Nigeria These activities are undoubtedly commendable. However, they are only on the periphery of Nigerian culture. 🟢 The most fundamental way to connect with your Nigerian roots remains through language. 🟢 It’s also understandable why many don’t opt for this path: Learning a new language requires complete immersion and dedication. 🟢 However, the satisfaction is far more rewarding than any other cultural activity. Here’s our idea for learning Nigerian languages. 👉 To make fluency more achievable, what if we create a community of individuals who meet weekly to speak and learn the language? 👉 It is way easier and natural to learn any language by speaking. By embracing the Mandingue language—a continuum of dialects spoken across West Africa, including #Burkina Faso, #Mali, #Senegal, and #Côte d’Ivoire—Mogoya offers a unique solution to overcoming language barriers to professional integration. 🔍 Why is this important? By 2030, an estimated 30 million young people will enter the job market each year. It’s then crucial to invigorate the job market by strengthening youth employability, particularly #African youth, by aligning training programmes with market needs, and focusing on future-oriented #careers. 💼 Our Commitment: PLACE e.V., in collaboration with PLACE for Africa, is therefore, committed to supporting young Africans on their path to professional integration. Our commitments include: • Building self-confidence and professional skills: Equipping young Africans with the skills they need to thrive. • Promoting cultural diversity: Using cultural diversity as a powerful tool for successful employment. We have enriched and diversified our content with innovative courses, including modules on languages, political education, video editing, and more. The Mogoya Programme, which kicked off yesterday with +180 participants from #Benin, #Cameroon, #Togo, #Mauritania, and #Madagascar, includes a comprehensive 6-week English course 📚. 41 participants have joined this intensive class, which I will be leading. The course will focus on essential communication skills for everyday and professional scenarios, enabling participants to confidently engage in English conversations, understand spoken and written English, and apply their language skills in real-life situations.
