With the recent vote by the Oklahoma State legislation on whether or not advanced practicing providers should be allowed to practice independently, it continues to be abundantly clear that states across the entire nation are attempting to address the growing shortage of healthcare providers. As healthcare authorities and state legislators continue to formulate new solutions to the problem, it is clear to the team here at Technicus that whatever solution that is arrived at, must achieve two key maxims. First, any solution must in no way compromise the quality of healthcare delivery for patients, but in fact, must enhance the quality of care. We cannot sacrifice quality of care for ease of solution. Second, any viable solution must not be so disruptive as to be a barrier to care delivery. Instead, the solution must enhance the current processes in place and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare providers, while also providing innovation that makes care delivery better for all parties involved. To these two ends, Technicus is striving to develop technologies that not only enhance healthcare outcomes, but also reduce burdensome administrative step. Our core belief is that by designing provider-centric technology, we can reduce the amount of time spent on what we call “operationally burdensome decisions”-repetitive decisions that require energy and input to be made, but do not result in direct action or delivery of care-and allow providers to spend more of their time and expertise on decisions we call “strategic care decisions”-decisions that require high-level of expertise or collaboration of providers that result in direct action or delivery of care. Any technology enablement that will succeed in healthcare must not become another burdensome step onto itself, but instead seamlessly integrate with the day to day workflow of healthcare providers. To this end, Technicus continues to partner directly with healthcare providers of all licensure levels (MD/DO, PA, OT, etc.) to ensure we are building technologies that are seen as “partners in care” instead of “barriers to care”. Here’s a breakdown of the subtle yet significant differences between the applications for Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and ALs: 🏥 Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs): • Comparative Data: SNFs need to compare their data within and outside the senior care industry. • Clinical Focus: Must provide one clinical result demonstrating the effectiveness of their performance improvement process. 🏡 Assisted Living (AL) Communities: • Comparative Data: ALs compare their data specifically within the assisted living profession. • Flexible Results: ALs can provide either clinical or non-clinical results. They need to submit two results instead of one due to the non-clinical data’s equivalency in importance to clinical data. 🔍 Clarification Needed: There’s an evolving aspect where some ALs may provide clinical results due to dual certification. The question remains: if an AL provides a clinical result, do they still need to provide two results, or does one suffice? This applies to physicians, PA's, NP's, all licensed practitioners....Scope of Practice, working within your limitations, not beyond - is good medicine. Being truthful & transparent about your training, in a language patients can understand is lawful. Pretending your training as an apprentice enables you to be independent in a specialty you didn't complete a residency or fellowship in is lying. Putting letters after your name to pretend you are equal if not better than a physician who went through 4 years of medical school, 3-7 years of postgraduate training and fellowship - is intended to mislead public. Let's be clear I have had the privilege of working with wonderful PA's and NP's, CNMs - in our health team. We all knew our limitations and when to ask for help. Physicians should replace physicians - response to physician shortage should be to include a pathway to US for IMG's - who are already licensed and practicing - like we did in 80's and 90's in response to nursing shortage - have them work/sponsored by - with licensed physician or hospital limited license - as road to citizenship eventually should they want this. Plenty of well qualified trained physicians in the world. Make medical school free; pay physicians appropriately; litigate malpractice in federal tort system - stop the LCME, ABMS monopoly. Work with the AAPA, NPs - on delineation of privileges that are skills, training and competency based - post on public website everybody's training - number of procedures, academic training, etc. Time to put medical care and decision making back in the hands of those that do the caring - the whole team.

The Future of EMS: Building a Stronger Voice in Advocacy and Policy For too long, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have been the backbone of immediate healthcare, rushing into action when lives hang in the balance. But despite our critical role, we often find ourselves absent from the rooms where policies are shaped, the places where real change happens. That needs to change. If we look at the nursing profession, we can see a clear roadmap to success. Once undervalued, nursing is now a driving force in healthcare policy, influencing everything from patient care standards to resource allocation. This didn't happen by chance; it happened because nurses unified their voices, advocated for themselves, and most importantly, stepped into leadership positions. EMS has the same potential. But we need to step up and take deliberate action to ensure our future: ⭐️ Unify Our Voice: When we come together as one, our collective power becomes undeniable. By consolidating our advocacy efforts, we can amplify our message and highlight the essential role we play in healthcare. ⭐️ Put Paramedics in Leadership Roles: This is crucial. We must work to get paramedics and EMS professionals into decision-making positions, whether in healthcare administration, policy, or elected office. The frontline experiences we bring can shape policies and drive change in ways that only those who have lived it can understand. ⭐️Collaborate Across Healthcare: Nursing didn't get where it is by working alone, and neither can we. By building partnerships with other healthcare providers, EMS can solidify its role as a critical part of the system and advocate for the resources and respect we deserve. ⭐️ Leverage Grassroots Advocacy: Real change happens from the ground up. Every paramedic and EMT has a story to tell, and those stories are powerful. By engaging in grassroots advocacy, we can make sure that the realities of our work are heard by those in power. ⭐️ Think Long-Term: This won't happen overnight. But with a strategic, long-term approach, we can secure funding, shape healthcare policy, and ensure EMS professionals have a lasting voice in the decisions that affect us. EMS professionals are more than just responders, we are leaders, and it's time we are recognized as such. We can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines.
