𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴'𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗖𝗔! It has been 2 months since I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and the post-qualification experience and interactions have been surreal. But I often tell people that apart from relief and respect from everyone that comes with the title, I haven't felt any different! I believe this is because becoming a CA was a process that took years, not something that happened overnight. Over time, I faced challenges, made mistakes, and learnt new skills that I had never thought I would possess. Beyond the required technical skills, here are some important aspects of my personal development: 1. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 – During my studies, I learnt to balance various aspects of my life, while keeping my emotions in check and staying disciplined throughout.   2. 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 – Balancing my workload, meeting tight deadlines, and keeping up with my studies taught me how to manage stress, prioritize tasks, and stay focused even under pressure. 3. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 – Through attending MCS courses, giving speeches, corresponding with clients, and building strong working relationships, I developed the confidence and ability to communicate effectively in various settings. 4. 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 – I learnt to work effectively with others, while also developing leadership abilities such as teaching, delegating tasks, and supervising the work of team members.   5. 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 – such as being adaptable, establishing boundaries, and mentoring, which are valuable in any context. During this life marathon, I've made many friends and developed countless skills, while having failed to keep up certain relationships, and missing out on many social meet-ups and gatherings. But I've never doubted the path I chose, since I have grown to become the person I always yearned to become, and my parents are proud of!   People debate on what is important – the journey or the destination. Regret but Don't Regress It was 2019, and I found myself working late nights in a water factory, a role I never signed up for. The weight of my past decisions and indecisions bore down on me, and I couldn't help but think, "This is not the life I wanted." Those words, spoken aloud without realizing it, echoed within me. A coworker's comment the next day sparked a moment of reflection. I had returned from my NYSC scheme in 2018 with over N350,000, earned from tutoring and private coaching in addition to my NYSC and State Allawee. My plan was to write my ICAN examination, but I diverted those funds into a catfish business, hoping for a lucrative return. However, two consecutive losses, exacerbated by a devastating flood and infections, left me with over 80% loss. Regret consumed me, but I refused to let it define me. Instead, I persevered in the catfish trade, learned from my mistakes, and eventually earned substantial income. With my ICAN funds depleted, I ventured into job hunting. The journey was tough – waking up at 4:30 to beat traffic for job interviews, only to be told on one occasion that " I was competent but not qualified". Rejection emails piled up, and I settled for a N24,000 private school job, hoping to save for my examination. In March 2019, I landed an accounting role at a factory for N40,000, aligning with my career goals. Though COVID-19 took that job from me in June 2020, I used the downtime to focus on my catfish business, which funded my September 2020 diet exam. I passed two foundation papers but lacked funds for the third. Then, an opportunity arose – an audit trainee position paying N30,000. Though modest, it offered invaluable experience and connections that propelled my career growth. Fast-forward to today, I've achieved the ultimate goal – becoming a Chartered Accountant. The struggles, setbacks, and regrets have given way to triumph. I look back on that difficult journey with pride, knowing that every obstacle overcome and every lesson learned has made me stronger. Regret may still linger, but it no longer holds me back. Instead, it reminds me of the resilience and determination that carried me through. I've transformed my regrets into stepping stones, and I'm now living the life I truly desired. My story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and adaptation. No matter how dark the path may seem, keep moving forward. Regret may visit, but never let it reside.

At that moment, it felt like the end of the road. The weight of disappointment was immense, and the future seemed uncertain. I saw pain in eyes of my parents. However, in every setback lies an opportunity for a comeback. Despite the failure, I chose to believe in myself and set my sights on a new goal: becoming a Chartered Accountant. I’ve always dreamed of my first LinkedIn post being about this: I’m proud to share that after a long and challenging journey, I’ve officially qualified as a Cost and Management Accountant (CMA) as of 23.08.24! This achievement represents years of sleepless nights, late-night study sessions, early morning classes, and countless setbacks. It’s a milestone that I manifested every day, and today, I’m excited to finally share it with all of you. The journey was filled with challenges—societal pressure, personal heartbreak, and many moments of doubt. There were times when I questioned whether I’d ever make it, despite being academically strong. However, this achievement has shown me just how resilient and determined I am. It revealed a stronger version of myself—one who appreciates small victories, stays present, and trusts the process. A turning point in my journey came in 2021, during a difficult personal event. It was a moment that made me see the true picture of who was by my side and who wasn’t. It became a source of strength, helping me push through when things were at their toughest. I’m incredibly grateful to my parents, who supported me unconditionally, my mentors who guided me, and my close friends who were always there, motivating me and reminding me to stay focused. Without their support, this wouldn’t have been possible. Before you reach where you're going, you will get to some places you're not going. However, for the insatiable creature that we are, human beings don't really get to where they are going. For the achievement of one goal/success, leads to the yearn for another. In order words, we never really 'arrive' unless we're dead. In our pursue for success, we always encounter some situations (negative or positive) that usually influence the end goal. Sometimes we tag them insignificant because we feel they contribute nothing to our success/achieved goal. Meanwhile, all those situations/experiences were naturally attached to the goal we were pursuing. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing now, it's not a mistake. Just part of your life journey. Embrace the experience. So what led to all the stories..? This was me last year at Soilless Farm Lab. Yes! I enrolled for the 3 months EYiA training. I have B.A in English and all I was doing after my degree was teaching.I finished NYSC in 2022 and worked as a teacher till August 2023. The pay didn't worth the stress and I started searching for greener pasture, that was around June, and guess what? I got a job. Yeah, a good one. Administrative position at a travels and tours company. Had series of interviews and was shortlisted. The day I was supposed to have the final discussion with the CEO the story changed. I met with the CEO that day and she seemed to have issues with my religion co dressing. Long story short, I was rejected. Meanwhile I already dropped resignation at the school thinking I got another job already. In bid of fighting depression, I enrolled for EYiA training even though I had no interest in agriculture. Well all I wanted was something to keep me engaged and give me money at the same time. During the course of the training I kept applying for jobs because I knew farming was not for me. I got my current job as a Support Agent in an IT company December last year and I realized all the marketing strategy I'm deploying now are the ones I learnt from EYiA entrepreneurship classes. Indeed, no knowledge is a waste.
