Common speech disorders include stuttering, apraxia of speech, and dysarthria. Stuttering is characterized by interruptions in the flow of speech, often treated with fluency-shaping techniques and pausing and phrasing. Apraxia of speech, a motor speech disorder, involves difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech, typically managed through repetitive speech exercises and motor learning strategies. Dysarthria, caused by muscle weakness, leads to slurred or slow speech and is addressed with exercises to strengthen speech muscles and improve breath control. Speech therapy for these disorders aims to enhance communication skills, boost confidence, and improve overall quality of life. Don't allow speech disorders to go untreated; contact us at About Kids and Adults Too today to learn how our specialized speech therapy programs can help improve communication skills for you or your loved ones.

👅 Understanding Lisp in Speech Disorders 👅 A lisp is a speech disorder where certain sounds, especially “s” and “z”, are pronounced with a “th” sound, affecting clear communication. Lisps are typically categorized into four types: ✅Interdental Lisp – When the tongue sticks out between the teeth. ✅Dentalized Lisp – The tongue pushes against the front teeth. ✅Lateral Lisp – Air escapes from the sides of the tongue. ✅Palatal Lisp – The tongue touches the roof of the mouth. Speech therapy can significantly help manage and correct lisps over time, improving communication and confidence. 💬✨ At Gabify, we provide resources and support for individuals dealing with speech disorders. Speech sound disorders can be challenging for both children and adults. It is an umbrella term that refers to any difficulty or combination of difficulties with perception, motor production, or phonological representation of speech sounds and speech segments. These challenges can include phonotactic rules governing permissible speech sound sequences in a language. There are two types of speech sound disorders: organic and functional. Organic speech sound disorders result from an underlying motor/neurological, structural, or sensory/perceptual cause. On the other hand, functional speech sound disorders are idiopathic, which means they have no known cause. It is essential to identify and address speech sound disorders early on to ensure individuals receive the appropriate treatment. Let's work together to raise awareness and support those who struggle with these challenges. #speechsounddisorders #awareness #support

Why is tactile therapy (patterned touch and movement) SO POWERFUL in decreasing stress, calming an overactive nervous system, and mitigating chronic pain?🤔 Because the skin and it's accessory organs originated from the same place as the nervous system in the developing embryo. 😲 And this structural and functional connection is what is what makes neurosensorimotor integration therapy so freaking valuable! If you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, if you're dealing with chronic pain, or if you are experiencing symptoms of behavioural disorder - look me up at www.cammachealth.com to learn more and book online. Give manual integration therapy a try this year! Your wellbeing is worth the investment!🫵

My Son is neurodivergent, we are waiting on a formal diagnosis to establish the flavour. I suspect it’ll be Autism but I’m not an expert. Here is a snap shot of a challenge for him. On a Thursday at first break the canteen put on pizza. This is apparently the best pizza ever. He has his lesson right by the canteen & has a system to get changed from PE quickly so he can get in the queue & get his pizza. If his PE teacher is late letting them change. Or something happens to delay him then he misses out on the pizza. Apparently it’s a hot commodity & you have to be quick in the queue to get it. If he misses out on the pizza it really dampens his day. I’ve offered to do pizza at tea time to make up if this happens but apparently it isn’t the same. Now you might be thinking “it’s just pizza” & for a neurotypical person it really is just pizza. But for my neurodivergent son that slice of pizza has the power to make or break his day. Now we do lots of resilience work. This doesn’t change the value placed on this pizza. I can’t change his neurodivergence & nor would I want to. I love him exactly as he is. This is just a snapshot of our life & no two neurodivergent people are exactly the same. But this might give you something to ponder about why something small like pizza for some makes or breaks their day! I want to use my snapshots to help build awareness & understanding. (Picture of Thor on the one chair he’s not allowed on. Has nothing to do with the post but he looks so proud of himself!)

Understanding Neurodiversity in Aging: Your Experiences Matter Neurodivergence refers to a range of conditions that affect how people think, learn, and interact. It includes conditions like autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. Despite the growing awareness of neurodiversity, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of the experiences, challenges, and needs of older adults on the neurodivergent spectrum. This lack of research limits our ability to provide effective support and services tailored to their unique requirements. Your insights are crucial. By sharing your experiences, you'll help fill this research gap and contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive community for older neurodivergent individuals. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey: https://lnkd.in/enMdAW-G Together, we can make a difference.
