🏀🎗️ Uniting for a Cause: Coaches vs Cancer Game 🎗️🏀 Tomorrow, something remarkable unfolds at Penn State University as the Coaches vs Cancer (CVC) game takes center stage. Proudly standing alongside fellow supporters, PSECU is committed to the fight against cancer and the invaluable work of the American Cancer Society. In sports, as in life, unity and determination pave the path to victory. The fight against cancer embodies these principles, relying on collective efforts to make meaningful strides in research, patient support, and awareness. While the basketball court serves as the arena for tomorrow's game, the real battleground lies in our collective resolve to make a difference. Together with our partners and sponsors, including the American Cancer Society, we contribute to a cause greater than ourselves. Through initiatives like the annual golf tournament, where we proudly serve as a presenting sponsor, we've witnessed the power of community coming together. These events have raised millions of dollars, driving progress in cancer research and patient care. As we come together to support Penn State basketball and the CVC game, let's remember that every gesture of support, no matter how small, contributes to the larger fight against cancer. Our combined efforts exemplify the spirit of teamwork and resilience. Join us in cheering on the teams tomorrow, knowing that each basket scored symbolizes a step forward in the fight against cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those affected by this disease. #CoachesVsCancer #AmericanCancerSociety #Unity #FightCancer #PSECUWorks #CommunitySupport

Take a minute to read this.
Last night, In honor of the winning streak that the NC State Men’s basketball team is on through the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, My wife Jess and I watched the ESPN 30:30 documentary on NC State’s 1983 Basketball Team and their improbable run to an NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The title of the documentary is “Survive And Advance”, which is a nod to the now famous motto for that 1983 team during their winning streak. One of the main focus areas of the documentary is Jim Valvano, the legendary Wolfpack Coach and Founder of The V foundation for Cancer Research. Coach Valvano lost his battle with Cancer in 1993 but he left behind words of encouragement and an enthusiastic spirit that will be remembered forever. Jimmy V was an excellent public speaker. Two of my favorite quotes from him are “In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.” And, “You have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal. And you have to be willing to work for it.” If you have ten minutes today, I encourage you to watch his famous speech from the 1993 ESPY Awards, which he gave just one month before his death. (https://lnkd.in/e3BSwbh3) To this date, The V Foundation has raised over $353 Million Dollars for Cancer Research. In January of this year, my wife, Jess, was diagnosed with brain cancer. We have been working with the team at Duke Health since her diagnosis and have been the recipients of fantastic care and treatment while at Duke. The Duke Brain Tumor Center has a similar foundation, focused specifically on funding Brain Tumor research at Duke University. That Foundation is called ‘Angels Among Us’. Without the innovative research funded by donations to Angels Among Us, Jess’ treatments for her brain tumor would look a lot different. These donations, no matter how big or small, contribute to research that is saving the lives of thousands of people every year. The 2024 NC State Men’s Basketball team has their own motto - Why Not Us? In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish the extraordinary by beating cancer - so why not us? Please donate to our fight if you are able to: https://lnkd.in/eAPpjZea

It's heart-wrenching to hear about someone battling cancer. Meeting their idol, Triple H, could bring immeasurable joy in their difficult journey. Triple H, a wrestling legend, has inspired countless fans with his charisma and resilience. Granting this last wish could create a profound memory for the patient and their loved ones, providing a moment of happiness amid the struggles. Triple H's involvement in fulfilling this wish could also spread awareness about the importance of compassion and support for those fighting cancer. His gesture could inspire others to reach out and fulfill the wishes of individuals facing similar challenges. It's important to approach this with sensitivity and respect for the patient's condition and privacy. Working with organizations like Make-A-Wish Foundation or directly contacting Triple H's representatives could help facilitate this encounter. Ultimately, granting this wish could serve as a beacon of hope and strength for the patient and their family during a challenging time. Triple H's willingness to make this connection could leave a lasting impact, bringing comfort and joy to all involved.

We desperately need a prostate screening programme that covers all males, sadly too many very treatable cancers are missed dur to no symptoms being present at the early stages when it is most survivable. Some of us have been incredibly lucky that our tumours have been found when other procedures or investigations have been taking place, when the tumour is still encapsulated in the prostate giving low Gleeson scores and most options for treatment. Men under 50 with a prostate cancer seem to be the least lucky as they are not included in the current screening. I have included the following from the Prostate Cancer UK site just to remind us all why we need to be vigilant and get tested. You are two and a half times more likely to get prostate cancer if your father or brother has had it, compared to a man who has no relatives with prostate cancer. Your chance of getting prostate cancer may be even greater if your father or brother was under 60 when he was diagnosed, or if you have more than one close relative (father or brother) with prostate cancer. Your risk of getting prostate cancer may also be higher if your mother or sister has had breast cancer or ovarian cancer.
“If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same”. Blown away by the resilience and determination of Sir Chris Hoy this morning. Shortly after being told that he has between 2-4 years to live because of his terminal cancer… his lovely wife, Sarra, was diagnosed with MS. The man remains an incredible inspiration. Sending love to the whole family.
