We need to support the adults to understand this. Childhood is where our children learn to attach to other human beings and learn how to relate to others by watching and listening to the adults in their environments. They take the messages adults give them and create a story about themselves and who they are in the world. This becomes their script to act from going into adolescent years and adult hood. When we see a young 5 year old child being shouted at and brought up in an abusive environment we feel such empathy for that little kid. However when that 5 year old turns 18 and is screaming abuse at others we label them and punish them!!!! Teaching adults how to respond and emotionally support children is a step in the right direction. #childrensmentalhealth #parenting #emotionalawareness

Children look to us to navigate the complexities of emotions. It's inevitable that we'll get angry and a rupture in the relationship with our child will inevitably happen. It's a part of parenthood and a part of being in any authentic relationship. However if we get angry with our child, it's not just about moving on; it's about repairing the connection. Even if we've moved past the moment, our child may still be processing the impact of our anger. Repairing means acknowledging what happened, listening to their perspective, and finding a way to mend the emotional bond. When we don't make efforts to repair after conflicts, it can strain the trust and security in our relationship with our children. Repairing a relationship also models healthy behaviour and teaches our child that it's ok to get angry, as long as we go back and try to make amends. #ParentingTips #parenting #childmentalhealth #emotionalintelligence #ruptureandrepair #attachmenttheory
