Networking: Not Just Connecting, but Building Bridges One of the most powerful tools in navigating a career pivot from academia to industry is networking. However, effective networking is more than just connecting—it's about building bridges between different worlds. For academics, networking outside of their usual circles can be daunting but incredibly rewarding. It opens doors to new opportunities, insights into industry challenges, and potential collaborations that can transform your career. Start by attending industry conferences, joining professional online forums, and engaging with industry leaders on platforms like LinkedIn. Share your insights, ask questions, and be genuinely interested in learning about the industry. Remember, networking is a two-way street; it's about what you can offer as much as what you can gain. #NetworkingTips #CareerPivot #BuildingBridges

Another enlightening chapter at the Employment and Career Expo organized by the University of Edinburgh Business School: "Learning to Network Effectively" with Stuart Fenwick. Stuart, as engaging as ever, delved into the nuances of networking, reinforcing that sometimes it's not just what you know, but who you know that propels us forward. The session included a unique activity – networking bingo. This fun and interactive exercise demonstrated the diverse ways we can connect with others, highlighting how every interaction can be an opportunity to expand our network. It also emphasized the importance of meaningful engagement during and after networking events. Building on the importance of networking in crafting a personal brand, as highlighted in a previous session I attended, this workshop offered deep insights into refining our networking approach. This workshop made it even clearer how essential effective networking is to our career paths. Ready to apply these learnings and elevate my networking game. Because as we've learned, the follow-up is just as crucial as the connection itself. #Networking #PersonalBrand #CareerDevelopment #UniversityOfEdinburgh
