In this brief post, Tanya Singh and I have discussed the new treaty approved by WIPO on Intellectual property, Genetic Resources, and Associated Traditional Knowledge. We have highlighted what genetic resources and traditional knowledge is and the key provisions of the treaty, and the benefits of having a treaty that focuses on access, benefit-sharing.

Codon table 🧬 The standard genetic code contains 64 different codons in 25 codon groups, which have complex mutual relations. Although these can be obscured by positive selection, the underlying processes become more important in long-term evolution. To gain insight into typical change routes of the genetic code, we use a modified codon table, with more emphasis on the codon groups (CG): https://lnkd.in/ehuAZuuC

What is disruptive and stabilizing selection? Population Genttics. Directional Selection occurs when selection favors one extreme trait value over the other extreme. This typically results in a change in the mean value of the trait under selection. Disruptive Selection occurs when selection favors the extreme trait values over the intermediate trait values. In this case the variance increases as the population is divided into two distinct groups. Disruptive selection plays an important role in speciation. Stabilizing Selection occurs when selection favors the intermediate trait value over the extreme values. Populations under this type of selection typically experience a decrease in the amount of additive genetic variation for the trait under selection. Today we will talk about another type of sampling within WP3 of the #LIFECyanobloom project in the Urrunaga reservoir by AnbioTek sl: complete sampling, which is activated when the phycocyanin values recorded with the probe exceed a certain threshold.
