Another successful year of giving! Walsh University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) puts a high emphasis on providing for those in need. This wonderful group of future physical therapists represents their program proudly by collecting new and gently used clothing from their community in order to donate to seniors in nursing facilities across Ohio. This year, the students collected 19 boxes of clothing that Absolute Rehabilitation can distribute to the facilities that we service therapy for. Thank you for your willingness to go above and beyond, Walsh University Doctorate of Physical Therapy. We are thankful that therapy programs such as Walsh's have a desire to help those who need it most. Swords Up!

Join Dr. Leah Light, Au.D., Core Specialist, MNRI and MGS Instructor, on April 29th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET as she presents the details of the Effects of auditory reflex maturation on the non-classical and classical neuropathways originally developed and presented by herself and Dr. Masgutova at a well-known medical conference, MAPS. Unlike adults who use only one hearing pathway, children use two different auditory pathways to process sound information. Find out why most therapists treat only one of these pathways, the classical pathway, while completely ignoring the other, the non-classical pathway. Learn how the non-classical pathway is directly related to retained primary (primitive) reflexes in children and how much more progress kids could make in auditory and speech-language development if both pathways were being addressed. This event is free to attend; donations are welcome to support the Masgutova Foundation and our ability to continue offering such events. Estimated value of $25.00 Register at https://lnkd.in/e6FNy_CU #masgutova #neuroreflex #auditoryprocessingdisorder #auditoryprocessing

Early intervention is a critical pillar of our Journey of Care™ at Beyond Blindness. We are excited to celebrate the introduction of a landmark bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that will establish grants for states and communities to improve children's vision and eye health through a coordinated system of care. Called the Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act, it aims to ensure all children will receive screening and care that will help overcome any obstacles and delays caused by a visual impairment. While there are several public health programs that offer support for other areas of pediatric health, this will be the first federally funded program addressing vision and equitable eye care for children. As a leader in early intervention for Orange County children with visual impairments and other disabilities, we believe this is an important step forward in delivering quality care to every family in need. It will not only provide more opportunities for early detection of vision concerns, but also reduce disparities in eye health and remove barriers to care that will put infants and toddlers on the path to achieving their fullest potential. For more information about Beyond Blindness' early intervention services, visit https://lnkd.in/gPb-mQEZ or email Irene Takahashi at irene.takahashi@beyondblindness.org. #BeyondBlindness #OCNonprofit #EarlyDetection #EDVIAct #VisionCare

When people hear that you work in “research”, it can be hard to understand what that actually involves… especially when you hear there are no labs and white coats?! This STEPtember, I’d like to share some of the different ways “cerebral palsy” (CP) is being researched around the globe – through the support from Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Grants program. CPA supports researchers who are reimagining the way we support very sick babies with brain injury transition from NICU, to early intervention in the community. We fund projects aimed at improving participation, quality of life, pain and mental health of young people living with CP. We collaborate with researchers working hard in Low-and-Middle-Income-Countries to actively support children living with very high disability support needs. We support programs right here in Aus, designed to better understand and improve respiratory health for children who are at risk of breathing difficulties. How life changing that could be for so, so many families…. If you’re keen to support us, please head to our STEPtember page: https://lnkd.in/g7vg97FP
This STEPtember, I've STEPped up for cerebral palsy.

The recent $175 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies to Meharry Medical College is truly momentous! As a former student, I have complex feelings about this news. While this investment in the future of Black healthcare professionals is significant, it also brings to mind my challenging experiences at Meharry. These experiences have inspired me to write a book that explores critical issues at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) medical school. My upcoming work delves into the uncomfortable truths surrounding health equity, institutional power dynamics, and the often-silenced voices of those who challenge the status quo. It examines the personal and professional costs of advocating for change within established systems, with a particular focus on Black mental health, entrepreneurship, and the broader struggle for Black liberation. I firmly believe that true progress demands more than financial investment; it requires a steadfast commitment to confronting and addressing deep-rooted systemic issues. My forthcoming book aims to contribute to this critical dialogue, aspiring to catalyze substantial reforms in medical education by advocating for enhanced transparency, strengthened accountability measures, and the establishment of a robust mental health infrastructure.
We are honored to share that Meharry Medical College today received a historic $175 million to its endowment from Bloomberg Philanthropies. This extraordinary gift—the largest in our history as well as to any historically Black medical school— is a testament to the extraordinary impact Meharry has had on health care for nearly 150 years. Watch as Meharry’s CEO and President, Dr. James E.K. Hildreth reflects on how Bloomberg Philanthropies investment will significantly support our long-term efforts to diversify the health care workforce and reduce health disparities at a time when it is needed more than ever. We proudly stand with Howard University College of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and Xavier University of Louisiana's Ochsner College of Medicine, who have also been granted significant donations. Together, we will continue to strive for #healthequity and make meaningful changes in our community and beyond. Thank you, Bloomberg Philanthropies, for your unwavering support. A billion-dollar gift just changed the future of medicine. Ruth Gottesman, a name now etched in the annals of philanthropy, has generously donated $1 billion to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. This isn't just a donation. It's a monumental step towards free tuition for all students, forever. This act of kindness resonates with me deeply. As someone who believes in equal opportunities, Dr. Gottesman's commitment to opening doors for aspiring doctors is genuinely inspiring, regardless of their financial background. But there's more to this story. This donation targets the Bronx, a borough grappling with significant health disparities. Dr. Gottesman is creating a ripple effect by lifting the weight of medical school debt. One that will improve healthcare access for generations to come. Let's take a moment to celebrate this transformative act of giving. And let's envision a future where financial barriers don't limit the potential of aspiring medical professionals!
