𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑶𝒄𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝑫𝒂𝒚 🌊 We live on a small island along the Norwegian coast, naturally my family and I have a close connection to the sea and are frequently on the beach. 🏖️ 🏰 At one point my children covered my feet to make a “merman” 🧜♂️ and drifted off to make castles. 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞. Bored, I grabbed a handful of the beach and studied the sand. The sand my children were playing with was in large part composed of a myriad of small shells from marine creatures. Amongst them, this beautiful little snail 𝘉𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘮. 🐚 🌐 Humans often only see the vast surface of the oceans, and rarely consider all the minute parts that make up the ocean, how we rely on them, and how the ocean connects us around the world. 🌍 The oceans make up 70 percent of the Earth’s surface. 🌿 70% of the oxygen we breathe comes from marine algae and plants. 🐠 90% of marine species estimated to exist are unknown to us. 🌊 Life, and in effect we, originated in the ocean.
