Mawani Calls on Chambers of Commerce to Promote Rapid Clearance at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam Shipping Arabia, August 14, 2024 — The Saudi Ports Authority "Mawani" has issued a directive to the Chambers of Commerce urging importers at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to swiftly clear containers, cars, and other goods that have completed processing. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure the efficient operation of the port. The circular released by Mawani highlights several initiatives designed to expedite the removal process of the said items, enhancing the flow of operations at King Abdulaziz Port. These efforts align with previous communications aimed at maintaining high levels of operational and logistical services. Mawani's call to action is reinforced by a plea for the Federation of Saudi Chambers to play a crucial role in coordinating with importers, encouraging them to hasten the clearance of their goods to avoid congestion and facilitate smoother port operations. This push comes amid increasing cargo volumes at King Abdulaziz Port due to shifts in Red Sea shipping routes and a suspension of certain ship handling activities caused by full storage areas. The backlog is largely due to delays by some importers in clearing their shipments promptly. To address these challenges, Mawani has outlined measures to enhance the port's capacity and optimize customs inspection zones. Effective implementation of these measures depends on the proactive engagement of all stakeholders, including car agents and other importers, who are urged to complete clearance procedures swiftly upon shipment arrival. King Abdulaziz Port, a pivotal gateway in the Arabian Gulf, is linked by railway to Riyadh's dry port, facilitating the transit of goods to the Eastern and Central regions of the Kingdom.
