#Amritsar Airport Marks Record Breaking Year in 2023 In CY2023, #Amritsar Airport reached a historic milestone, recording its highest-ever traffic of 2.945 million passengers, marking a record-breaking year for the airport. This period witnessed unprecedented domestic and international traffic, with 2.02 million domestic passengers and 918,000 international passengers. Accompanying this achievement were record-breaking aircraft movements totalling 21,037, including 15,937 domestic and 5,430 international movements. Compared to CY2022, there was a remarkable surge in overall traffic, witnessing a Year-on-Year (YoY) increase of 31.52%. Specifically, domestic, and international traffic saw significant rises of 27.62% and 41.04% YoY, respectively. December 2023 emerged as a significant milestone for the airport, marking its busiest month with a record-breaking 338,512 passengers, comprising 231,699 domestic and 106,813 international passengers. Notably, this achievement marked the first instance of international traffic at the airport surpassing the 100,000 mark in a month. Compared to pre-COVID levels in CY2019, where the airport recorded 2.56 million overall traffic, including 1.70 million domestic and 858,000 international passengers, CY2023 signifies not only a full recovery from the COVID pandemic but also reflects a remarkable surge in overall traffic by 14.87% compared to CY2019. Throughout 2023, Amritsar Airport witnessed the resumption of operations by Alliance Air and AirAsia X and welcomed Malaysia Airlines as its newest operator. Notable developments included the introduction of new routes such as #Amritsar-#Verona, #Amritsar-#Kullu, #Amritsar-#Shimla, and #Amritsar-#Hyderabad. Additionally, existing airlines like Air India and Vistara expanded their respective operations, contributing to the airport's growth and connectivity. The continuous confidence of airlines in the market of #Amritsar promises further growth in overall traffic and connectivity in 2024. The airport is on track to achieve a new record high of approximately 3.2 million passengers in CY2024, barring significant reductions in capacity deployed by airlines during the year. ~Ravreet Singh Data Source: AAI

Lessons from the regulation of air connectivity and Public Service Obligations in India! Recently, I attended the India Regional Air Mobility Conference in Delhi, delving into the local policies driving air connectivity. India's aviation market, one of the fastest-growing globally, has seen the launch of hundreds of new routes in recent years. Key to this success is the innovative UDAN-Scheme introduced by the Indian Government: - Focus on new airports without regular flights. - Airlines taking the lead in proposing new routes. - Tailored support for routes connecting tourist destinations. - Incentives for underserved states. - Reduction in airport charges. - Obligation for airlines to offer a percentage of tickets at regulated prices. - Temporary start-up aid. - Financing sourced from the industry, akin to universal service funds in Europe in telecoms and postal services. Are you awre of similar examples in aviation? UDAN has already facilitated the establishment of hundreds of new routes, yet opportunities for enhancement persist. Strengthening ties between Tier 2 and Tier 3 airports remains a focal point for further development. #AirConnectivity #UDANScheme #AviationRegulation #PublicServiceObligations #IndiaAviation #RegionalMobilityConference

Aviation companies in India are on a trajectory of remarkable growth, with over 450,000 domestic passengers in September'24, signaling substantial sector potential. Recent DGCA data for August 24 reports a 6% MOM and 5% YOY traffic growth, underlining positive trends. The upcoming peak season from October onwards, fueled by various travel segments like holidays, inbound foreign travel, and corporate traffic, paints a promising outlook for the next nine months. The sector's expansion is also bolstering international traffic, with Indian and foreign airlines ramping up capacities on international routes. The ongoing upgrades in airport infrastructure nationwide are driving increased passenger and cargo capacity, resulting in record-high profits for aviation-related companies. Moreover, the market has witnessed the entry of new players like EasyTrip, TBO Tech, IXIGO, and Eco mobility into public markets, underscoring the sector's vast potential and delivering significant returns to shareholders. Despite market fluctuations, competition, and a concentrated market, the industry's focus on enhancing products, services, and network expansion remains crucial. This intensified competition seeks to provide customers with more options, fostering a competitive and robust industry landscape. While recent market dynamics have led to a duopoly in the last two decades, having more players in the market is essential to offer enhanced choices for customers and stakeholders. #MOCA #DGCA #AAI #MIAL #BIAL #GOX #TAAI #TAFI #IndiGo #AirIndia #AirIndiaexpress #Spicejet #Akasa #Vistara #fly91
