⚠️ New article alert I am pleased to announce my first academic publication of 2024, as my research paper titled "Understanding the Libyan Conflict Loop: Examining the Transitional Justice Tracks in Post-Gaddafi Libya" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Studies and Policies, Volume 5, Issue 2, published by the Libyan Center for Studies and Policy Drawing. In this research, I argue that the failure of the transitional justice project reinforced the state of polarization between the revolutionaries and the former regime. Consequently, this contributed significantly to create the conditions conducive to the return of war in 2014. Despite the existence of transitional justice laws, the new leadership did not reflect a genuine willingness to address the violations, making the Libyan justice more vengeful than conducive to building peace. Therefore, the failure of the transitional justice experience in Libya can be attributed to the lack of conducive conditions for achieving justice, the weakness of inherited state institutions, particularly security and judicial institutions, and the exacerbation of political divisions between secular and political Islamist currents. This dialectic is based on the argument put forward by my professor, Dr. Ibrahim Fraihat, in his book "Unfinished Revolutions," where he accurately describes the post-revolutionary state of Libya as the "culture of the victor." The article will be available online in April 2024. #libya #conflict #peacebuilding #transitionaljustice

🔔 New book alert I am pleased to announce that my book proposal, “Justice, Security, Legitimacy: Paths of Libyan Conflict Transformation,” has been approved by the Libyan Center for Studies and Policy Drawing. (The first version of the book will be in Arabic, will be an English version later) This book will provide an analysis of the Libyan conflict by examining three critical paths: security, justice, and political legitimacy, and their roles in transforming the conflict in the post-Gaddafi era. The analysis will cover various levels of actors, including tribes, civil society, armed groups, political parties, legislative councils, governments, political systems, the United Nations, and foreign states. I will invest everything I studied during my master's degree, considering the new changes in the Libyan conflict landscape, to produce an updated perspective that can be relied upon. I am excited to delve into this important subject and contribute to the understanding of Libya’s complex conflict landscape. Stay tuned for more updates! #libya #conflict #security #justice #legitmacy

I am pleased to share with you my new piece, "In Search of a Middle East and North Africa Peace System," published recent Contemporary Review of the Middle East, the flagship journal of the Middle East Institute in New Delhi. https://lnkd.in/ebfA-RJq Many people ask why MENA is so violent. This article reverses the logic: why is the regional peace system, the institutions that should dampen conflict and hinder violence, so weak? The article shows that the MENA peace system is often uneven and unstable, with progress in one dimension coming at the expense of another. Understanding the gaps and inconsistencies within the MENA peace system can help devise a more realistic and feasible approach to conflict resolution rather than abstract and ultimately impractical ideals. #peace #gaza #israel #iraq #yemen #libya #syria.

Webinar alert! (no cost) Food, Empire and Colonialism: From Palestine to Turtle Island May 9, 2024 10:00 AM PT 'In this discussion, panelists will examine the relationship between food, empire and colonialism, drawing connections between the current genocide in Gaza with colonial projects across Africa and Turtle Island. Panelists will discuss how imperial and colonial regimes have and continue to use deliberate starvation and the weaponization of food and food growing lands as a means of genocidal violence. Amid the horrific settler colonial violence happening in Gaza, we also raise crucial questions about the role of food in culture, identity and connection to land. We ask: What pathways exist across colonial contexts to revive, repair and sustain seed and food sovereignty for colonized peoples fighting for freedom, life, and liberation?'
Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Food, Empire and Colonialism: From Palestine to Turtle Island. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Read this insightful and timely article by @Ambassador Jean-Daniel Ruch, as he delves into the political machinations of reaching a resolution in Gaza. In this article, Ambassador Ruch dives into the feasibility of the two-state solution from three perspectives: pessimist, optimist, and realist. Unpacking the desirability and feasibility of the two states solution for the relevant stakeholders, as well as the the psychological and political hurdles to such a solution is critical to understanding the prospects for meaningful and lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
