Quick call out for help. I'm looking for narrative motion picture footage that I can use with permissions for academic and portfolio publishing to score against for uni. I need three pieces of footage 3-5 minutes long at picture lock with diegetic sound, dialogue and sound FX, but no music. If you're a film producer - amateur or otherwise - I'd love to hear from you if you're be willing to have a final year composition student produce some professional standard music to accompany your film. I'll be using MIDI mock-ups, not live orchestras. I compose in styles ranging from avante-garde to neo-romantic, with instrumentation ranging from full symphonic orchestras to big-bands to modular or more mainstream synthesizers and more typical of pop/rock/funk ensembles. If you're able to help, hit me back with a DM or permissions for me to DM you. For the record, use permissions are an academic integrity requirement, which have to come from content owners. Confetti is celebrating 20 years of Confetti Fest, and we need your scripts! Confetti Fest is an original short play festival that seeks to develop and highlight local playwrights. We are seeking plays written by Capital Region residents to be considered for participation in a play development process and our 20th annual short play festival in October 2023 Playwrights who submit their work to Confetti Fest 20 can expect and must agree to participate in this script development period during the summer 2024 months prior to rehearsals starting in August 2024. ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED OR POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN April 1, 2024. SUBMISSIONS MUST BE: ● Less than 25 minutes long. ● Typed In 12-pt, Times New Roman font ● Applicable to our mission statement ● An original work by a playwright currently local to the Capital Region ● Works that have NOT been previously produced are strongly encouraged. ● Playwrights may not request to be a director or actor for their own play Please include, on a separate cover page OR in your submission email: ● Playwright's contact information, including name, email address, local address, and phone number ● The following statement: "By submitting [title of play] by [playwright's name] for consideration, I am agreeing to actively participate in the Confetti Fest 20 script development and revision process before the start of rehearsals. I'm a composer, so I follow a lot of film production groups. One posted question recently was: “what do producers never save enough money for?” And all the feedback was about what was on-camera (costume sets actors and so forth) — here’s what I added: I appreciate all the on-camera suggestions here. There’s no question that what goes on film is intrinsic to the end quality of the artwork But generally in an effort to appease high standards and creative visual ideas, producers inevitably run out of money during post production. And with the constant focus on visuals, VFX can eat up a lot of the dwindling budget that they really need to spend on the composition and recording of original music with live musicians. So much production (for streaming platforms) is using sound library tracks now, or synthetic mockups of Orchestra (MIDI), but in the latter case, it exponentially increases the composer’s workload to render a believable performance on each instrument in the orchestra …and remember that composer is never paid a session fee for any one of her/his Performances. Heartbreakingly, it’s not even a question of being offered a tight budget these days. The more common example is, “we need someone to replace our temp music and we go to festival in two weeks. Can you do it for nothing, cause the exposure'd be great for you!" But think about it, audio is more than 50% of the film going experience, and with everybody watching movies on their phones now, it’s the audio that brings that tiny image to life - because you’re hearing a three-dimensional representation in your ears (if the post production sound department has been given time and budget enough to realize Their end of the artwork) so: Yes, we need to spread the money around in front of the camera, to make sure that what-gets-shot is fascinating, full of depth, richness, and intrigue. But unless you have stunning music and sparkling clear dialogue, with sound effects giving you a sense of location and music driving or supporting all the emotional cues in the film, your effort will just make a small splash, and disappear into a flip-phone.
