We recently asked Heather Thornton DNP, RN, CNE why she chose her current area of practice! Here is what she shared: "I feel one of the greatest areas of impact for nurses is empowering people to achieve their goals. Information sharing is an important part of empowerment. As a professor, I am allowed to learn with students and share information, so students can achieve their dreams of becoming nurses. These graduates, in turn, continue the cycle of education and empowerment in their individual areas of expertise. Essentially, my current practice as a faculty member allows me a broad impact on patient care because I am a part of so many future nurses lives each semester." Happy Nurse's Week 2024! I am so proud to be a 4th generation nurse that stands on the shoulders of countless legends. My promise to the nurses that have paved the path for my success so far has 2 parts: 1. I promise to be intentional and grateful. I commit to surround myself with people that share my passion & celebrate each other's contributions - Iron Sharpens Iron. I am ecstatic to work with a courageous and innovative team of Nurses that are mission driven to deliver a workforce reality enabling clinicians with flexibility and the compensation they desire while creating financial sustainability and reliability for healthcare organizations. 2. I promise to say the hard things that need to be said. For instance, as we dive headlong into a new age of disruption & innovation at warp speed: if you're a healthcare leader whose organization is partnering with "technology firms" that don't have a Nurse voice at their executive table, ask them how they develop strategic solutions that are meaningful to real clinical users in a rapidly evolving environment. Then, ask yourself how many hours you've spent teaching them why/how systems need to operate in order to deliver seamless user interfaces & experience. If you don't like the answers, come sit by me and lets talk.
Happy National Nurses' Week! Today, as we kick off this meaningful celebration, we pay tribute to the heartbeat of our healthcare community. Nurses are the pillars of compassion and care, tirelessly serving others with unwavering dedication. Join us in honoring four remarkable nurses: Nancy Bourg, Amanda Wheeler, Tamara Miller and Dave Stillmunkes. Their teammates recognize them for their unwavering commitment and compassion. #NationalNursesWeek #NursesWeek #ThankANurse

How do evolving pedagogical changes impact the design of learning environments? It is a very important topic for us as architects and planners. This piece authored by my colleagues Terin Barrios, AIA, LEED AP and Emma Cuciurean-Zapan, AIA explores some key strategies to increase the positive impact of space on student outcomes.
At SmithGroup, we recognize the significant impact that design has on the future of nursing education. Our colleagues, Terin Barrios, AIA, LEED AP and Emma Cuciurean-Zapan, AIA explore how thoughtfully designed spaces can improve learning outcomes and support the core competencies set by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
