An American multinational technology conglomerate’s business and research unit collaborated with Trinamix for the implementation of Oracle Transportation Management (Inbound). This implementation aimed to streamline the workflow process to secure container space for inbound shipments and bulk planning to automatically plan inbound purchase orders to create shipments while optimizing cost and honoring additional constraints for Carrier preference. We sought to integrate multiple systems with OTM to automate load tendering and tracking, including Contract Manufacturers, Freight forwarders, ERP, Carriers, and Other External Systems. We achieved freight cost optimization in logistics by consolidating loads and selecting the most appropriate mode and service levels. Our efforts resulted in the enhancement of shipment visibility across all transportation modes and improved container space availability. We successfully minimized manual intervention in processes involving contract manufacturers and carriers (tendering via Integrations), and significantly reduced the time and resources required by the logistics team to manage complex carrier rates. The Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) come pre-packed with a feature called "Conditional Booking" which is used during the Tendering stage of any Shipment to a Carrier/Transporter by the Shipper. At this point, a Carrier/Transporter is given the flexibility to review the Tender given to them & Accept to fulfill the same with certain conditions of their own, which can range from different pickup time, transit time, separate container, etc. Once the carrier submits this 'Modified' Tender confirmation back to the Shipper, it will be instantly available for review by the Shippers, who can in turn decide to Accept/Reject the 'Conditions' put forward by the Carrier/Transporter. Today's post is based on the queries I received from my last week's post regarding "Conditional Booking" feature in the Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) and this is going to be bit technical. Question 1: How do I capture the modifications submitted by the Carrier/Transporter as the Tender response onto the Shipment in OTM? Question 2: How to update the upstream or downstream Shipment with modified timelines, loading/unloading points, container types, etc? Answer 1: The Shipper has to just "Accept" the modified Tender submitted by the Carrier/Transporter, the OTM will take care of capturing these Modifications onto the Shipment.
