One of the great things about having Hoodies Magazine and being its Editor is that it is a genuinely independent publication that we can decide what iur content looks like. With Robbie Bell owner and director of City Larder coming onboard we not only get to talk to Robbie about his fantastic range of retail and wholesale products but we can also talk to him about the things that are important to him and the wider community. Robbie’s nine year old son is dyslexic and in the upcoming Issue 13 of Hoodies Magazine we are indeed going to address the ever growing issues being faced by kids and parents in the post Covid world. How do kids get support? How do families get the support they need and deserve? How do we push governments to invest in things that are having profound impacts on kids not only today but into their futures? A dollar spent today is ten saved tomorrow when tomorrow and the sooner we address things like dyslexia and autism the sooner we can help these kids and prevent many of them becoming statistics of those that could’ve been saved. 📢 New Insights on Gender, Economics, and Home Life 🏡💼 Our Center had the privilege of hosting an insightful interview with Corinne Low, Associate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Professor Low's newest work, "Winning the Bread and Baking it Too" sheds light on the persistent disparities in home production time between women and men. This work is part of her broader research agenda that explores the economic problems impacting women's lives, treating them as economic agents to understand decisions traditionally not viewed through an economic lens. Our HCEO member, Professor Corinne Low, sheds light on the unequal distribution of household work even when women are the primary wage-earners. Even as breadwinners, women in the US still bear the brunt of domestic responsibilities, doing 2-4x more home production (cooking and cleaning) than men. But here's the kicker: this pattern isn't just unequal, it's also inefficient!   Dr. Low’s research suggests that households might benefit economically if lower-earning men contribute more to household chores, allowing higher-earning women to invest more time in their careers (or themselves) outside the home.   Dr. Low’s research reveals that a more equitable and efficient model for household labor will be productive for families.
