The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has unveiled the 'Future Skills Academy.' This initiative aims to empower individuals across the Arab world through educational programs that foster skill development and enhance professional growth. The academy is part of the 'Knowledge Project,' a collaboration between MBRF and UNDP to promote sustainable development and facilitate access to knowledge-based societies. It represents a significant milestone within the FutureSkills4All Initiative launched last year. 'The Future Skills Academy embodies our continuous dedication to bridging gaps, advancing the knowledge economy, and promoting human development across the Arab region by equipping individuals with essential skills and directly linking education to employment opportunities,' said HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF. The academy will offer diverse certified and specialized programs, both online and in-person, designed to equip students, professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and government officials with essential future skills. According to The World Bank, a staggering 129 million girls are denied the right to education globally. This represents a generation of untapped potential, a future dimmed by lack of opportunity.  But what if we could change that?  Our social impact arm, RYTHM Foundation's Maharani programme is working towards a world where every girl, regardless of background, has the chance to be educated, empowered, and reach her full potential.  Datin Sri Umayal Eswaran, Chairperson of the Foundation, believes in the simple yet powerful truth: "If you educate a girl child, she will be empowered when she becomes a woman." And that's exactly what the Maharani initiative does.  Starting from a small group of 20 girls, the programme has blossomed into a nationwide initiative in Malaysia. Through workshops, mentorship, and after-school support, Maharani equips girls with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.  Today, the Maharani Learning Lab (MLL) has evolved into MLL 2.0, a contemporary education and personal growth hub in Selangor, Malaysia. The upgraded programme complements the broader Maharani initiative and the Maharani School Programme (MSP), endorsed by the Malaysian Education Ministry. Promoting self-esteem for Vietnamese youth “Confident me” introduces new knowledge around self-esteem into Vietnam's education programme for the first time.  A meaningful educational programme to boost self-esteem among young people has jointly been created by Vietnam National Institute for Educational Science (VNIES) and the Center for Education and Development (CED) in conjunction with Unilever Vietnam and Dove. Global research shows that low confidence in physical appearance prevents young people from realising their full potential. Dove has already implemented “Dove Self-Esteem Project" in 153 countries since 2004, aimed at promoting confidence, self-esteem and self-awareness, especially in young girls. Now, Dove has brought this project to Việt Nam in collaboration with Unilever Vietnam, VNIES and CED. The initial stage of the project will run from September 2023 to January 2024 and is tailored specifically for Vietnamese students. During this period, the team has worked to produce a package of “Confident me” documents that can be used in schools as part of the curriculum. As more than 55 per cent of students felt they have experienced teasing “a few times” and nearly 14 per cent of students have experienced being teased or commented on “many times”, it is imperative to combat this through the “Confident me” documents. To accomplish this, three “training of teachers (ToT)” courses have been organised to equip teachers to deliver these lessons to their students. These courses guide the teachers through the “Confident me” documents so that they are then able to feel confident in their abilities themselves to deliver the course to their own students. “Confident me” introduces new knowledge around self-esteem into Việt Nam's education programme for the first time. This programme includes five lessons which help participating students improve their self-esteem and realise their own values, regardless of appearance, age or weight. Students are free to develop themselves and become the best version of themselves. They are encouraged to celebrate themselves regardless of their appearance and are empowered to respect and celebrate the diversity around them. #Unilever #Dove #ESG
