#World #Hepatitis #Day #July #28th Viral hepatitis remains a significant public health challenge, far from being eliminated by 2030. Hepatitis B and C together cause 3,500 deaths daily, with mortality rates on the rise. Globally, 254 million people live with hepatitis B, and 50 million with hepatitis C, with 6,000 new infections each day. Many remain undiagnosed or untreated. A recent WHO report highlights regional barriers and opportunities to improve access to health products for viral hepatitis, urging countries and stakeholders to scale up effective interventions within a public health framework. In a world where #hepatitis testing and treatment have been made more accessible, what’s stopping people from getting tested? Societal attitudes and taboos not only discourage individuals from seeking testing, but also perpetuates a harmful culture of silence and blame surrounding the disease. Many people are reluctant to get screened for the fear of being labeled as someone “who deserves it”. The reality is anybody can get hepatitis, but nobody deserves it. In a social experiment we conducted, four people bravely shared their diagnosis. However, millions continue to live in silence. We believe everyone deserves to get tested. By shining a light on hepatitis we can move closer to achieving the World Health Organization 2030 hepatitis elimination goals.
