MSMEs are critical to global supply chains, but many were forced to shut off trade during the pandemic. Labour and movement restrictions, a logistics crunch, and uneven consumer demand exposed supply chain risks and left MSMEs struggling to cope with spiralling costs. Their resilience is key to the resilience of supply chains as a whole, and APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation must therefore support MSMEs to bolster their supply chains. This is a key priority of the US chairmanship of APEC in 2023. To this end, National Center for APEC, in partnership with UPS, Johnson & Johnson, and Access Partnership, has developed the Supply Chain Resilience Toolkit, which was launched at the Supply Chain Resilience Capacity Building Workshop for MSMEs on 26 July in Cebu, Philippines. This toolkit contains an online self-assessment for MSMEs across APEC to measure their resilience across 27 indicators, understand their gaps today, and access practical recommendations to build resilience. SIPPO strengthens capacity of Business Support Organizations (BSOs) with targeted workshops 🎯 We work with BSOs in all of our 12 target markets to ensure that they become well-equipped to inform, educate and enable their exporting companies to grow and expand their business. One of our in-depth tools are Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) workshops, of which we have completed 10 to date. These are organized jointly with local BSOs or chambers of commerce, like the recent workshop held from 29-30 April in Bosnia Herzegovina, where we collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Republic of Srpska (CCIRS). The two-day workshop focused on evaluating CCIRS's current capacity across a broad spectrum of areas. This in-depth analysis covered six key domains: 1️⃣ Network and Cooperation: This session assessed the chamber's effectiveness in building and maintaining relationships with other organizations. 2️⃣ Monitoring and Results Measurement: Here, the focus was on CCIRS's ability to track progress and measure the impact of its initiatives. 3️⃣ Digitalization: This session evaluated the chamber's use of technology to streamline operations and enhance services. 4️⃣ Service Delivery: This area examined the efficiency and effectiveness of the services offered by CCIRS to its members. 5️⃣ Strategy: This session assessed the clarity and effectiveness of CCIRS's overall strategic direction. 6️⃣ Sustainability: This session was all about country-specific ESG criteria, trade regulations, and sustainability standards and related Chamber's policies and guidelines, their capacity of promotion of knowledge exchange on good sustainability practices and ability to capture and market information about their members/clients and their products/services. Kamile Janulyte, PMP®, Lead Monitoring & Results Measurement and Digitalisation at SIPPO, has been leading the progress to measure the impact of local initiatives. She commented: “The results of the OCA workshop will be instrumental in planning future activities and further developing the capacity of the CCIRS. By identifying areas for improvement, our BSO partners can take targeted steps to enhance their effectiveness and better serve their members.” The workshop was facilitated by an external expert and included participation from representatives of both CCIRS and SIPPO, ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative evaluation process. #CapacityBuilding #tradenetworks #sustainability #SIPPO #Swisscontact SIPPO Bosnia and Herzegovina Boris Tadic
