Upon reflecting on our inaugural summit, we quickly realized we wanted more – instead of focusing solely on the business of fashion, we are excited to announce that we are rebranding as Duke’s premiere pre-professional student organization elevating career paths at the intersection of creative and business fields. DBRS promotes access to careers and placement in the retail and consumer goods industries more broadly. Expect engaging speaker events, insightful career talks, skill-building workshops, and intimate networking sessions designed to prepare you for success in the creative industries. DBRS 24-25 will allow for a new, dynamic executive team with numerous opportunities for the Duke community to get involved and bring the new DBRS to life! The 14th Annual Supply Chain Forum concluded today after a successful two-day conference centered around the theme "Practical Ways to Address Operational Complexity." Distinguished keynote speakers including Douglas Guilherme , VP Supply Chain North America and Canada at Hershey Company, Sara Park, Vice President, E2E Integrated Planning at The Coca-Cola Company, and Tim Hotze, SVP Enterprise Capacity Planning at Target, shared valuable insights on identifying sources of complexity and leveraging technology and people to manage the associated risks in the supply chain. Industry experts led panel discussions on topics such as "Utilizing AI to Tackle Operational Complexity," exploring Machine Learning algorithms, Big Data Analytics, Predictive Analytics, and the role of technologies like ChatGPT. Another key discussion revolved around "Building the Talent to Manage Operational Complexity" through strategies like mentorship, coaching, networking, career sessions, and internships. The event culminated in an Operations Excellence Tour to Sumitomo Electric and Schneider Electric plants located in Lexington, Kentucky, providing attendees with a firsthand look at best practices in action. 🌟 Story Time: From Classroom to Career 🌟 As I walked across the stage to receive my bachelor in B. com from MDU University, I couldn't help but reflect on a pivotal moment that shaped my journey. During my sophomore year, I took a project of commerce Department that was rumored to be one of the toughest. The final project required us to solve a real-world problem using our newly acquired skills. Our team chose to tackle [describe the problem], a challenge that seemed insurmountable at first. We spent countless nights brainstorming, prototyping, and testing our solutions. There were moments of frustration, but also breakthroughs that reignited our determination. The turning point came when we were going to send the project to our department head but at that time someone delete that form our pc but Fortunately we have a another project prepared for the backup of it. This not only solved the problem but also won us the third position. This experience taught me resilience, teamwork, and the power of innovative thinking—lessons that extend far beyond the classroom. Now, as I embark on my professional journey, I carry these lessons with me. I am eager to contribute to a forward-thinking organization where I can apply my skills and continue to grow. We are at the stage of the semester in my supply chain classes at the J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management at the University of Arkansas where we discuss how #supplychain and #logistics processes directly impact on-shelf availability (OSA) in the #retail industry. If the product is not on the shelf then we can’t satisfy customers! If a retailer continues to fail in this area, then as the late Sam Walton would say, the customer has the ultimate power to fire the company from the chairman on down! Fortunately for us, there is no better expert to discuss these issues than Michael Graen, who after an extensive career in Procter & Gamble, CROSSMARK, and Walmart, continues to help companies work to solve OSA challenges. I love bringing industry professionals in my classes to help us merge theory and practice. This approach to learning continues to help us develop a pipeline of talent ready to contribute to solving problems as our students work in internships and full time roles early in their careers.
