As we progress through the Access Fellowship Programme (AFP), we wanted to introduce some of the incredible mentors who have taken time out of their busy schedules to support our Fellows - so please join us in saying hello to Cloud He! Cloud is a Senior Marketing Specialist at SHEIN, where she provides training and support to new joiners. She is also involved in team development initiatives for her colleagues based in Thailand and the Philippines, and coordinates regional projects like logistics optimisation and IP infringement investigations. She was inspired to join the AFP as she believes programmes like this can help students build their confidence. She also felt she could leverage her skills to guide them in overcoming challenges and exploring their future career journeys. Despite working in marketing, Cloud originally studied Apparel Design and Merchandising in Temasek Polytechnic, as well as Public Relations in the US. She encourages students to follow their passions and never be afraid to make gradual changes to their plans, as long as they can move closer to their goals. PPE丨SAIS MAIA Candidate丨LKY School丨IO & Intl Development丨Environment & Sustainability丨Education & Ed-Tech
It was exactly one month ago when I received the rejection email that I wasn't chosen for the Sciences Po exchange. I believed my first semester went well with a proven academic record, and I was confident that I had all the capacities required. Life took a drastic turn in March, when I failed in my pursuit of studying at Sciences Po, and not long after, I received the scholarship notice, which didn't match my expectations. I also didn't do well in classes and exams. I spent the first two weeks of March in disappointment, self-doubt, and fear for the unknown future. It seems like what I believed myself to be capable of achieving is illusionary and I am not enough. After the sudden strike of reality's misalignment with my expectations, I lost the sense of anchor and confidence - how can I still know what goals I can actually achieve? What should I do now that all I had planned for myself wouldn't come true anymore? I still remember how I was held and supported with love, care, encouragement, and trust, from my parents, friends Nao Shibanoki, Myron Sotunde-Adesina, and my teachers. It's easy to know that I need to move on and that life will open other doors, but it's not that easy to live through it in reality. I am so grateful for all the kind words affirming my values and capabilities. I realized though I failed, it cannot define me, nor influence how my family and friends see my strengths. I tend to overemphasize the parts that didn't go well, but forgetting how far I have already come and how much I have already achieved. Sometimes life just doesn't go the way we expected it to go, and it can be beautiful too. I had been so in doubt and defeated, but now I decided to move on and head to the unexpected direction life leads me to. I am happy and proud that I secured an internship at International Anti-Corruption Academy, in the Department of Training and Capacity Building. Aligned with my passion for the intersection between education and global governance, I trust I will learn a lot in the anti-corruption training project management practices. Following the summer internship, I will start my semester exchange studies at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. I am looking forward to understanding the Asian perspectives in international affairs and public policy practices, which will complement the SAIS curriculum. After one month, I am finally brave enough to say: it was indeed a hard time for me, but I will trust myself and look ahead. I believe the experience at IACA and Singapore will be as fulfilling and transformative, if not more, as I had expected for the other paths. And I want to thank everyone who has supported me through this journey. You made me realize the strengths in me that I always neglected. As I always tell myself and I will continue to: Trust that detour. I will keep striving for what I look up to, and have a more peaceful mind for what I couldn't change.

As part of the Jordanian delegation’s ongoing efforts to identify mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities in Singapore, Amira Qarqash - Digital Skills and Development Manager along with the team, met yesterday with members of the National Youth Council (NYC) Singapore. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss innovative programs and initiatives aimed at empowering our youth to reach their full potential. The team expressed their commitment to supporting future leaders through three key areas: access to insights, opening doors to learning and networking opportunities, and fostering potential collaborations. The team and Council delved into a range of topics centered around providing youth with the necessary tools and opportunities to succeed. The two parties also engaged in brainstorming activities to carve out areas for potential partnerships, such as providing remote internships, career guidance, and mentorship sessions. This meeting was just the beginning of an exciting journey toward transforming the future of our youth. The team and the Youth Council are committed to working hand in hand to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for our young leaders. Let's continue to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and empowerment in our quest to help our youth achieve their full potential. Together, we can create a brighter future for all. Graduate schemes are just a way to get a conveyor belt of young people into your company, right? Wrong! There's actually an awesome reason why companies invest so much into nurturing graduates - and it's all to do with branding. One of our mantras is that your employees are your best brand advocates, and running a popular grad programme is a brilliant way to develop naturally loyal ambassadors. One kickass scheme we really admire is the one from BAT, which gives graduates a chance to plug into a global network as they learn and develop. #PayItForward: How I Achieved Scholarships Worth $2000 and S$6000 at FTU2? 🌟 Studying in Singapore has made me realise the significance of how I can empower others by sharing our efforts and experiences. This means a lot to me! So, I'm excited to share how I made it possible 🇸🇬🇸🇬 1️⃣ Stay Alert for Scholarships: Monitor available scholarships and set clear, achievable goals. I'll be sharing a detailed guide on this soon! 2️⃣ Connect with Professors: Connect with Professors to gain valuable insights and seek their guidance. 3️⃣ Participate in Workshops and Competitions: Join workshops, competitions, and additional courses related to your field. I majored in Business Administration, but since it's a broad field, I focused on Marketing through self-study and applied these insights to my essays. 4️⃣ Expand Your Network: Through my role in external relations at the university club, I connected with business professionals. This expanded my network, provided learning opportunities, and helped me understand problem-solving from experienced individuals. 5️⃣ Find a Mentor: Seek out mentors and seniors for advice and feedback on your work. 6️⃣ Balance Studies and Extracurriculars: Balancing studies, work, internships, and club activities can be challenging. Dedicate 2-3 hours daily to review and previewing your lessons. 7️⃣ Avoid Peer Pressure: Don’t let peer pressure overwhelm you. Instead, learn from the mindset and strategies of your successful peers. Stay focused, seek guidance, and leverage your network to achieve your goals! #EmpowermentThroughEducation #SharingSuccess #SupportingOthers #LearningJourney #SingaporeExperience #GivingBack
