I’m coming out. I want the world to know… I’ve had enough. It is time for a change. Back in 1994, the album Definitely, Maybe by Oasis was released and Lisa Marie Presley married King of Pop Michael Jackson. It was also the year I first built a website and 30 years later I am still actively developing websites. However, that is about to change. Today is the day I become The Accessibility Guy. That’s right. The web is basically a nightmare for anyone with additional needs. Have you ever listened to a website? Trust me, it is a noisy place. I decided now is the right time for me to take these 30 years of experience and attempt to make the web a better place. As The Accessibility Guy, I am going to help businesses, web agencies, web developers and designers place accessibility at the core of what they do. To coincide with Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) founded by Joe Devon and Jennison Asuncion, Digital Accessibility is being born. It is a new UK-based digital accessibility consulting service from Scaramanga Marketing. Yes, we took the Ronseal approach to naming. We provide training to teams through a series of creative workshops and measure progress through accessibility audits. I know everyone ‘knows it is the right thing to do’, but very few do anything. It is time for you to change your approach to inclusivity. Better still, sign up to our charter [https://lnkd.in/eUC4pbaN] and make a commitment to accessibility. Continuous advances in technology mean that online accessibility is becoming more and more important. Because while so much of the population desires or needs to be online, these opportunities are significantly more limited for those who identify as having a disability. In fact, the 2023 WebAIM report showed that a staggering 96.3% of home pages had detected WCAG 2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2) failures. Common errors included low contrast text, missing alternative text for images, empty links, and missing form input labels. Here's how to fix these to ensure your site is more accessible. More on my blog: https://lnkd.in/em-4E8_R IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Graphic has a dark orange background with white text. The title reads, "Ways to Make Your Website More Accessible." Underneath is a checklist with 4 items: Use high contrast text. If there isn’t enough contrast between the text and background colours on your website, it can make readability extremely difficult. Add alt text providing a description of media content to support users who are visually impaired and are using screen readers, or who might not have access to strong enough wifi to load the media. Fix any empty hyperlinks; those that don’t have associated content letting people know what will happen if they click the link. Ensure you have labels on any forms to describe the purpose of the form and the information required from users. At the bottom, "KarenCWilson.Me" is written. #WebAccessibility #Accessibility #AccessibilityGuidelines

Making your site accessible is a game-changer—it welcomes everyone, boosts engagement, reduces bounce rates, and prevents shopping cart abandonment. WCAG, set by W3C, ensures global standards for accessible web content. Simultaneously, the ADA mandates businesses make their digital platforms accessible. This isn't just legal—it's a commitment to an inclusive digital experience. In the U.S., 61 million people live with disabilities, highlighting the need for inclusivity. Investing in web accessibility isn't just user-friendly; it taps into a potential $16.8 billion+ in recouped revenue. In the case of nonprofit organizations a potential loss in huge audience. Get a free accessibility audit, and make sure your website is WCAG and ADA-compliant. It won’t take more than 30 secs.
