The Olympics opening ceremony kicks off on Friday, and for any keen pub quizzers who may find themselves wondering over the next few weeks, "What sport is the Paris 2024 Olympics debuting?" The new Olympic sport is breaking. Thank me later when you get that bonus point!
Here are a few stats about this Olympics:
🥇 Millions of spectators
🥈 10,500 athletes
🥉 45,000 volunteers
Such a major sporting event, with so many hopes and dreams, will no doubt be an exciting place. However, the accumulation of years of training, commitment to a goal, and the support of others (medical staff, sponsors, coaches, family, friends… the list goes on!), means pressure will be high.
In any sport, so many people are involved in the multi-disciplinary team. Regardless of the role you play, it will be important to have the right conversations. When the pressure ramps up, it becomes even more important to be deliberate in enabling people to speak up while also creating the space to listen.
🐎 From the news of yesterday, bringing Charlotte Dujardin’s name to the global stage by withdrawing from the Olympics due to a provisional ban, now is no better time for equestrian sport to consider how well they do this.
💡 At Kin&Co, we find that organisations with a strong Speak Up, Listen Up culture leave little to no room for complacency. While we may not have our bags packed and be en route to the Olympics, in our own organisations, we all have a role to play in making Speak Up cultures commonplace. It's not always easy, but as more of us do it, others will see it's possible when they need to.
