What does the Industrial Revolution have to do with data literacy? Perhaps you envision billowing smokestacks on top of 18th century factories and poorly cared for workers laboring under intense heat and physical exhaustion. Maybe the atrocities from Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle come to mind. The Industrial Revolution, however, is constructed of four major phases, and the fourth phase is still ongoing. Over the past 200 years, the health care industry has been forced to adapt to technological advances and new methodologies of conducting business. Perhaps not surprisingly, the success of the fourth and current phase of the Industrial Revolution hinges on data literacy. Data literacy is essential for health care employees to know how to work with data and have a clear understanding of what data communicates. Read more about data literacy and its importance for health care in this thought-provoking piece from Accordant’s Debbie Ferguson, CFRE: https://ow.ly/CrAK50T8o6y #healthcare #philanthropy #dataliteracy #IndustrialRevolution

~I LOVE DATA 😊 ~ My commitment to the field of data is fundamentally driven by my belief in its power to effectively solve world problems. I am personally convinced that data has the capability to clearly define problems arising from both local and global issues, providing a solid foundation for effective problem-solving. Especially public health issues such as; concerns on equity, the economic burden of health, quality of healthcare and many more, the best way to initiate a worthwhile process through solving these issues is getting substantial data. So far so good, I have completed diverse projects on data analytics and I have witness firsthand, the transformative effect of these projects. I can firmly conclude that the beauty of our future as a world, is hinged on how well we manage our present and past data. With the contemporary technologies which give way to accessing lots of data about our world, I can't help but predict that things would only get better. As for me, I am so excited to continue this journey and contribute to the "data world". Wish me well!

Some quotes from the intro to Sarah Williams' amazing book, "Data Action: Using Data for Public Good." Thoughts? "Data represents the ideologies of those who control its use. Data has often been used - and manipulated - to make policy decisions without much stakeholder input... Collaboration with policy experts, government, designers and the public is essential - it creates trust and co-ownership by allowing the work to be critiqued by those who know the issue best." "Data, in the hands of different people, can produce wildly different outcomes for society because how people use data shows their vision of the world. That's what makes our use of data to change the world at once exciting and alarming... Data has the potential to be used as evidence for the development of unjust policies." "Seek to do no harm, respond to the needs of those on the margins of society, expose unjust practices, and ultimately help educate us about our world so we can make better decisions." https://lnkd.in/ejgs_86Q
