🔍 Have you wondered how advance care planning (ACP) interventions impact caregiver outcomes? Let us share some insights with you! 📊 We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to understand the impact of ACP interventions on caregiver outcomes. Meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) showed that ACP significantly improved congruence in end-of-life care preferences between caregivers and patients. 💡 Results also showed improved bereavement outcomes, satisfaction with care quality/communication, reduced decisional conflict and burden among caregivers. No study showed that mental health of caregivers was adversely affected. Overall, this review suggests that ACP interventions have some benefit on caregiver outcomes. Continuous exposure to suffering and trauma can take a toll on a person’s emotional and mental well-being. Compassion fatigue not only affects the caregivers themselves but also the quality of care they can provide. The Investigation in Health, Psychology and Education. The study examines how a predisposition for perfection might adversely impact the ability to manage injuries, pain and particularly the aging process which ultimately can create obstacles that hinder the recovery process as hopes of achieving unrealistic outcomes fall short based on perceived expectations. Embracing a spectrum of recovery, acknowledging incremental progress, and focusing on continuous improvement rather than immediate improvement can lead to better outcomes and more effective results from injury and pain. To foster resilience in recovery, it is beneficial to focus on continuous improvement. This approach encourages working towards higher levels of recovery and well-being without the pressure of achieving an unrealistic standard. For example, my position at United Senior Association is to help facilitate and support adopting a mindset of continuous improvement as it can significantly benefit in developing more resilient strategies for advocating and supporting the elder population. The importance of recognizing that small, incremental steps contribute to larger goals is crucial because if we can’t appreciate how far we have come we are less inclined to believe in where we are headed. #unitedseniorassociation #USA #eldercare #FDA #seniorliving #ADA #community #patientcare #compliance #hospitals #OIG #healthcare #digitalhealth #assistedliving #HSS #CMS #nursinghomes #seniorcare #medicare #seniorcitizen #homehealthcare #caregiver #nurse #dementia #inhomecare #seniorhealth #HHSOIG #kloekorby #healthcarefraud #healthcarepolicy #HIPPA #alzheimers #mentalhealth

Bowlby proposed three key factors that influence attachment styles with caregivers. These factors underscore the importance of responsive caregiving in shaping a child's sense of security and future relationships. One emotion family caregivers (and all others) can experience frequently is anger, which if ignored can raise havoc with your health and well-being. The anger I’m referring to is sustained anger. The type you encounter initially suppresses and stays with you and churns inside. Unfortunately, when this happens stress hormones are released and can create many health issues affecting cognition, memory, cardiovascular, etc. Two interventions to help address this are personal awareness and introducing interruptor behaviors to gradually but effectively diminish the grip of this anger. #caretakers #caretaker #caregiver #familycaregiver #caregivers #caregiversupport #meditation #bounceback #boundaries #selfcare #reminders #health #advocate #selfcare #pause #support

Coming to #ACRM2024 SPECIAL SYMPOSIUM: The Impact of #Caregiving on the #BrainHealth of Black Men A vital contribution to the understanding of how caregiving affects this underserved population. By highlighting the interplay between caregiving, racial disparities, and brain health, the research provides a foundation for developing targeted interventions that can significantly improve the well-being and brain health of Black male caregivers. This work not only fills a critical gap in caregiving research but also underscores the importance of addressing #healthequity and #culturalsensitivity in caregiving #research and #supportservices. Building on our latest blog post about caregiver stress, caregivers have been in the news today! James Janeiro, who is the director of Policy and Government Relations at the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence was on Global News speaking about the need for a national strategy to support caregivers. As we highlighted on Monday, 1 in 4 Canadians are caregivers who account for nearly 97 billion dollars of economic value. Mental health and financial strain are making this endeavour nearly impossible and with an aging population, these concerns need attention.
