They say to build Relationships in Recruitment.. the break-ups hit home the same sort of way. 💔 Imagine learning the business inside out, have a good relationship with different department managers and have been honoured a ‘Trusted pass’ to visit whenever. Imagine recruiting 34 permanent members of staff into there since October 2021. Ranging from a £13p/h workshop hand, to an £80k Project Manager… Then comes along a change of personnel, adamant on using their own agency - who funnily enough are charging a whopping 25% fee! (Nearly double mine)… brown envelope comes to mind 🤫 I have now been pushed aside and forgotten, and this process will have to be resumed again. While we are in the process of recruiting some fantastic people, we thought we’d catch up with our Talent Manager, Helen Drew, to get her top tips for acing an interview the TFJ way! 1. Do Your Homework: Spend 10-15 minutes researching the company and its values. This demonstrates good preparation and enthusiasm. 2. Punctuality Matters: Plan your route in advance to avoid being late. If you anticipate a delay, call ahead to inform us. 3. Come Prepared: If you have been asked to bring documentation, make sure to check you have everything before the day of your interview. 4. Dress Appropriately: Making an effort doesn’t mean you need to wear a tux! But equally, try to avoid tracksuits and trainers, first impressions count. 5. Ask Questions; interviews work both ways. Asking questions will help you decide if the company is right for you. 6. Engage with the Interviewer: It's natural to feel nervous during an interview. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, maintain good eye contact, and try to relax. 7. Be Yourself: Our Operations Director, Dan Jones, always says, “We recruit for behaviours and attitudes; skills we can teach” and I couldn’t agree more! Candidate Interview tips: 💚 Do your homework and be prepared: Just as you have prepared your CV and cover letter tailored to the job position you are applying for, prepare for your interview performance! Show the person interviewing you that you have done your company research. Show an interest in having a career and not just the job. 💚 Show your personality:You are more than what you write on paper. Recruiters consider your personality when hiring. Try and relax during the interview, show enthusiasm in your ideas and goals. 💚 Have a real conversation with the interviewer:Don't use your CV and cover letter as a script, the recruiter can already see your CV, so there is no need to bullet point from your CV. Show to them why you are really there, share real conversations and engage. 💚 Have a positive, can-do attitude at all times: Come across as a positive and enthusiastic candidate, willing to learn. There is nothing worse than a candidate with a bad attitude. 💚 Ask questions: Although you will probably be discussing salary and benefits, try not to ask questions solely on these topics. Ask questions about the company, to show a genuine interest in the position. Recruiters will want to hire someone genuinely interested in the company. You'll also get a better understanding of whether this position is right for you. 💚 Focus on accomplishments, rather than just skills:Instead of just listing skills, consider explaining how your skills led to accomplishment. Use real life examples in previous work. Here’s one simple trick to hire cleaning staff quicker And it’s kind of a no-brainer Just remove friction In the world of recruitment, it can be pretty dire, especially when hiring cleaners You get applicants 90% suck 10% don’t show up Back to square 1 However usually it’s because there are layers of hoops to jump through ⭕️ “must have 5 years minimum cleaning experience”  ⭕️ “must be flexible with work times”  ⭕️ “must answer the 85 per interview questions”  ⭕️ “must attend a face-to-face interview” They’re just going to move on to the next cleaning company that makes it nice and easy to join Yes - we want the right people No - we don’t want idiots that will ruin company's reputation But you are going to have to make the candidate's life easy if you want to fill roles quickly Think about the key things you need them to have 🤔 Hold a phone interview to make sure they tick those boxes ✅ Hire. Hiring Managers & Companies.... Is it OK to be second choice? How would you feel if a candidate you met and offered a job to, was waiting on another potential offer that they preferred. If they didn't get offered that preferred choice, they'd accept your job offer. Is that OK? Would you feel concerned about their commitment? Would you feel second best? At the end of the day, if you meet 2 good candidates and offered your first choice, you'd probably offer your second choice if the first turned it down.
