From the panel: • Live concerts are an important source of income for creators. • It is important to continuing to fight against dominance of platforms that try to take advantage of creators. • Brazil has a unique model of collective management, which also manages neighbouring rights. • Chile is working together in joint collections. • Mexico, despite high rates of poverty and crime, is 14th in terms of collections for creators globally and is a region of great growth.

Barenboim’s recent CD is lesser known, and also particularly interesting for the use of the Barenboim straight-strung piano. The “outsider” was the young Italian pianist (19 years old) Francesca Antonucci, a student of mine at the Conservatorio di Rovigo, who played this piece in a student concert last May 28. This experiment also intends to compare, without labels, young performers with great interpreters, also to stimulate the listeners’ curiosity and to encourage young performers in continuing their musical research and sharing their achievements. #blindtestresults #robertoprosseda

In my work dedicated to the Ensemble intercontemporain, I develop the idea of "sonic iridescence" which consists of calibrating a sonic aura to an impulse ("main sound-light"), which represents the attack transient placed under a magnifying glass through an appropriate orchestration. Iridescence is created by projecting this "sound-light" towards multi-stratified textures, which create a variously colored artificial reverberation (decay time) because more interferences and refractions are created around the main sound, just as happens in the optical phenomenon of iridescence. I will explain this theory of mine better during the presentation of the Ensemble concert at the Parco della Musica, Rome, on November 10th, 7.00 pm. I wait for you!! [Seeds of Lights]

When listening to music, we are often conditioned by the name of the performer, by his fame, by the opinion we already have of him. We can certainly change our opinion about that particular artist, but always in relation to what we already think of him. I would therefore like to do a little experiment. I propose a series of "blind tests”, in which the same piano piece is played by different performers, without you knowing the name, the age, sex, or geographical origin of the pianists. Some recordings are very well known, as part of the official discography of famous performers. Others, however, are less known or completely unknown, taken from recent live recordings by still little-known pianists. No recordings of mine are included. In this first blind test I propose listening to four different interpretations of the Fantasiestücke op. 12 no. 3 by Robert Schumann, “Warum”, to which I recently dedicated a video. It is a short composition, apparently simple, but very rich and complex in poetic ideas and expressive nuances. It requires a particular musical sensitivity and control of polyphony and dynamics. On July 1st at 8pm I will reveal the identities of the four pianists and their recording sources. The four audio tracks are recorded on three different brands of pianos, which will be revealed together with the identities of the four pianists. Three tracks are taken from commercially available CDs, while one is a live recording. Naturally, this is not a "competition": for me all four recordings, although very different, are very beautiful and intense, and it would make no sense to want to draw up a "ranking" here. On the other side, each interpretation highlights different aspects of Schumann’s masterwork. I am curious about your opinions. You can participate by selecting your favorite interpretation. Feel free to write your comments about these interpretations and their comparison. I recently joined the artistic committee of the international quartet audition at the Philharmonie de Paris, dedicated to emerging ensembles. Beyond the joy of experiencing incredible music and connecting with outstanding professionals, it prompted reflection on some challenges within our sector: 🎭 The Complexity of Artistic Discourse Engaging in artistic discussions can be as intricate as the compositions themselves. Each individual's unique sensitivity to different aspects of music adds so many layers to the dialogue. Navigating this complexity is a challenge, that we are trying to use to make progress with ECHO - European Concert Hall Organisation. 🚀 Breaking Free from Historical Constraints While tradition is a cornerstone of classical music, it's crucial to empower artists to break free from historical constraints. The audition served as a reminder of the importance of carving new paths, pushing boundaries, and fostering an environment where creativity can thrive – a journey we're embracing with our ECHO Rising Stars. 🎓 Nurturing Emerging Talents As a community, we must keep on affirming the significance of supporting emerging artists, providing platforms for them to flourish and contribute to shape and not only absorbe the narrative of classical music. This includes as well the need to join our forces to improve the pipeline: we have the responsibility to shape a more inclusive and diverse classical music scene.

More resources are a double-edged sword. Talent is context dependent. Clarity is everything. I picked up this record recently, and these two amazing musicians demonstrate this point on every Rag in this performance. I "dropped the needle" on my favorite performance so you can start your Friday out right! Ravi Shankar was one of the world's most beloved musicians and well-known sitar players. More well-known in Indian communities, Ali Akbar Khan was a masterful sarod player (a sarod is similar to a banjo in construction but has a more diverse timbral palette). The tabla is performed by Alla Rakha. Why is this performance so stellar? Because all the musicians are clear on which notes to play (and which ones to gracefully avoid). They know the divisions of the Raga and they know larger grouping conventions like the tehai to which this piece culminates. Like wizards, they take these conventions, these incantations of all past performances, and use them as a starting point for their own collective and creative expression. Most of this performance is improvised, with the exception of the main melody. I sincerely doubt that much of this music was worked out ahead of time. What I take with me from this into my own work are the following points: 1. Be clear on what I need to bring to the group; 2. Know when to bring it to the group; 3.
