Earlier this year, I had the privilege of moderating a roundtable discussion at the United States Conference of Mayors Washington D.C. meeting titled "Empowering Resilient Communities: Infrastructure Projects Fueling Real Results." I was proud to be joined by Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, and Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker. Infrastructure advocacy has been a common thread in my career, from my years in local government as Chief of Staff to Mayor Dyer, to my federal service at the U.S. Department of Transportation (Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Railroad Administration), to now working for a technology company, SiemensUSA. And what I heard from the mayors during the roundtable has shaped my thinking for 2024 when it comes to this powerful moment for American infrastructure, as a trifecta of federal legislation and additional funding programs shift us from advocacy to implementation. A promising new proposal, Senate Bill 1572, aims to study extending TriMet's WES (Westside Express Service) commuter rail service between Wilsonville and Salem, which could support more sustainable and efficient land use patterns by promoting transit-oriented development, reducing sprawl, fostering economic growth, improving access to affordable housing, and mitigating congestion and emissions. It would also help Oregon create a new pathway to activate federal transit dollars with intra-city transit. This is particularly important as we outline a path for significant projects and investments in a 2025 transportation package. With broad bipartisan support for the bill, we're one step closer to making public transport an easier and more accessible option in the Willamette Valley. Check out our 2024 legislative overview for the latest about the bill, including our testimony, and others we're backing this session: https://lnkd.in/gs3ZYkG7. 📷 courtesy TriMet

Take The Survey! The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is looking at the best way to move people and goods across the state. In South Carolina, we face many changes. These shifts — in population, communities, businesses, environment, safety, and travel behavior — affect how people and goods move throughout the state. It is important we proactively plan to address these changes, so we can deliver a multimodal transportation system that maximizes the safety of people, the environment, and our economy. https://lnkd.in/e7WGjPZr

To commemorate President's Day in the backdrop of a presidential election year, Eno is kicking off a series of articles about transportation relating to U.S. presidents. Not only are these stories fascinating, but they also reveal how previous generations navigated dramatic transportation changes. Embarking with this "inaugural" edition, you will learn how changing transportation policies and technologies, from lighthouses to electric vehicles, have had a profound effect on our lives. In the 18th century, the American economy thrived because of our Atlantic seaports. In the 19th century, canals, steam-powered boats, and railroads helped create mighty cities along the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. In the 20th century, streetcars and subways brought people to downtowns and then highways spread out our homes, factories, offices, and stores. Check it out at https://lnkd.in/evt6agwK
