The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program can help bring energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation electrification, clean energy finance, and workforce development projects to thousands of cities and counties across the country. The application deadline for local governments is October 31, 2024. The deadline for Indian tribes is May 31, 2025.     ACEEE is working with localities and other jurisdictions participating in the EECBG blueprint cohorts, which offers model projects and programs designed to help state, local and tribal governments achieve high impact results with their grant dollars. The Sustainable Communities Accelerator Network (SCAN) brings together community leaders and local government officials working on transportation and land use projects that will reduce climate pollution and center environmental justice. The seven-month program helps participants build their professional networks, learn from national experts, and move their communities’ priorities from plan to action. SCAN is a collaboration of the EPA’s Office of Community Revitalization and the Smart Growth Network, a national alliance of advocates, practitioners, policymakers, and local leaders working toward land use and infrastructure policies that result in healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for all.   Applications for the Sustainable Communities Accelerator Network are open now! https://lnkd.in/eKnjKCFF 

Since 1976, the Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) has improved the energy efficiency of more than 7 million homes of low-income families. The Project 2025 policy agenda for a conservative administration threatens to eliminate WAP and other federal clean energy programs. Weatherization is imperative for helping low-income households keep their homes from getting dangerously cold or hot, while reducing indoor allergens and irritants, including dust and mold. This morning ACEEE’s Nora Wang Esram and Mark Kresowik met with officials from the Department of Energy, Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources, Bhutan to share leading practices in energy efficiency.      The Bhutanese officials are on a U.S. tour this week for talks with U.S. utilities, research institutions, and government agencies. Bhutan is a leader in hydropower and is working to integrate variable renewable energy resources into its grid, making energy efficiency essential for the country to meet its climate and sustainable development goals.     The tour was organized under the Clean EDGE Asia Indo-Pacific Energy Market Investment and Modernization project, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources and is supported by United States Energy Association .

The National Energy Codes Collaborative is accepting applications for its newly launched Energy Code Implementation Fellows program. Each Codes Collaborative Fellow will take on a long-term project that advances effective building energy code implementation and provide technical assistance to states and local agencies working to implement updated energy codes. This two-year fellowship is a great opportunity to have real-world impact reducing buildings’ energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
