It is my pleasure to report that Innovations in Logistics has successfully completed a technical feasibility trial project regarding the loading and unloading of gypsum into our 14-ton reusable flexible #bulk containers (FBCs). This trial was intended to demonstrate to a #gypsum producer in #Turkey and its client in the Mediterranean region that our FBCs are economically efficient and technically well-suited to replace common 1/2.5-ton jumbo bags on complex intermodal international trade routes. When the project becomes operational, unnecessary labor operations will be mechanized and automated, and gypsum will be loaded into FBCs via standard automatic feeders. PVC Weekly Analysis - Issue 24- 27 - Monday 08 July 2024 Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) import prices into Turkey rolled over this week except for US origin K67 material, which decreased. The market is stagnant and there is no expected mobility. Demand is low owing to the lack of money on the end-user side and both seasonal and economic recession in the construction sector. Prices are expected to fall slightly in August and may increase again in September. Northwest Europe origin PVC K67 was assessed at $900- 920/t cfr, unchanged from last week. Domestic producer Petkim offered its material at $920-930/t plus VAT and July loading South Korean material was available at $900/t cfr. Northwest Europe origin PVC K70 was assessed at $950- 960/t cfr, unchanged from last week. Petkim’s offers were at $950-960/t cfr. In the first six months of the current year, 3.7 million tons of cargo were handled in the Port of Liepaja, i.e. by 2.6% more than in the corresponding period of 2023. The dry-bulk cargo volumes account for 65.9% of the entire cargo throughput during the aforementioned period. Indeed, as before, the transshipped dry-bulk cargo constitute the largest volumes in the Port of Liepaja also now, despite that the shipments of, for instance, grain and other cereal products (1.7 million tons) show a minor decrease of 1.3%, as compared to the first half of the previous year, and the cement volumes (275 800 tons) have decreased by 20.2%, as compared to the relevant time period of the year 2023. As opposed to the slight decrease in certain dry-bulk cargo segments, for instance, the volumes of transshipped woodchips (251 700 tons) in the first six months of the current year have grown by 50%, as compared to that of the previous year. The transshipped breakbulk cargo (1.1. million tons) currently rank second (30.6%), showing an increase by 13.4%, as compared to the overall cargo volumes of this segment in the first six months of the year 2023. The volumes of Ro-Ro cargo (880 600 tons) show an increase of 13.4%, as compared to the corresponding period of 2023. Due to various reasons - mainly the geopolitical situation - the volumes of liquid-bulk cargo (129 700 tons) in the Port of Liepaja currently account for just about 3.5% of the entire cargo throughput, or by 19.1% less than in the previous year. The Port of Liepaja is the third largest port in Latvia in terms of transshipped cargo.
