𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲/𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝗼𝗳-𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁! On top of that, disparities based on racial and ethnic differences also exist, a study has found. Here are the key points: - 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 to palliative care. - 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲, which is an option for comfort and support at home for terminally ill patients during their last days. - 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 is only 25% among the Hispanic Population and 20% among the black/African Americans. - 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱, adding stress to an already difficult time the family is facing. 𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆? These statistics highlight the need for better communication and creating awareness about the options available for everybody during this critical stage of life. Additionally, there's an urgent need to develop culturally sensitive outreach programs and reduce systemic barriers to ensure equitable access across all groups. ICYMI - a recent survey found 52% of Native patients feared disrespectful encounters in the exam room. Native respondents also topped the list when it came to reporting experiences of discrimination in daily life, something that impacted their mental and physical health. The good news is that respondents clearly expressed how providers can earn their trust. The key to positive healthcare encounters isn't complicated - it starts with respect and communication. Our latest research paper, "The Role of Street Medicine and Mobile Clinics for Persons Experiencing Homelessness: A Scoping Review," has been featured as a cover story in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health! Homelessness is a critical issue, resulting in an estimated 5,800 to 46,500 deaths annually. The connection between experiencing homelessness and poor health is undeniable. In our scoping review, Mobile Health Map researchers explore how mobile programs and street medicine—where care is delivered directly to persons experiencing homelessness (PEH)—can mitigate this crisis. By providing trusted, affordable, and accessible healthcare, these innovative approaches show immense promise in improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.
