"My journey at ACES has been incredibly rewarding, filled with mentorship and growth opportunities! I began as a Behavioral Interventionist (BI/RBT) and quickly moved my way up to an Outcomes Manager after obtaining my BCBA. As an Outcomes Manager, I support and provide feedback to the supervisory team, discuss client progress, and conduct performance reviews for clients who've been with ACES for six months or longer. My passion for mentorship continues as I train and support new OMs and lead the regional pods. I'm proud to be part of such an amazing journey!" Interested in a fulfilling career? The growth rate for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) is quite promising! According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), BCBA job growth is expected to increase by more than 20% in the next eight years. This positive trend has been consistent since the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) began tracking such data in 2010. The field of behavior analysis is in high demand, making it an excellent time to be a BCBA. Here are some key points about BCBA job growth: Increased Demand: The rise in awareness of autism, the effectiveness of applied behavior analysis, and recognition of the value of skilled BCBAs have contributed to the increased demand for behavior analysts. ABA therapy companies across the United States are actively seeking certified behavior therapists to join their teams. State Opportunities: All 50 states have experienced an increased demand for BCBAs over the last few years. Whether you’re a BCBA or an assistant behavior analyst, there are plenty of opportunities in the BCBA job market. Impressive Growth Rates: Between 2010 and 2018, the demand for BCBAs increased by a staggering 1,942%. Even from 2017 to 2018, demand grew by 127%. Assistant behavior analysts (BCaBAs) also saw significant growth, with a 1,098% increase from 2010 to 2018 and a 184% increase from 2017 to 2018. CEO & Founder of Special Learning, Inc. A fierce advocate of this amazing field of ABA and those behavior technicians and analysts who work tirelessly to help improve lives by delivering quality, ethical services.
ACCREDITATION IN THE FIELD OF ABA The ABA field has truly become a quagmire serving nobody's best interest. That sounds very harsh but we're supposed to be in a field that exists to ethically apply the amazing science of behavior analysis (with fidelity) to help as many people as possible, yet the actions of the credentialing bodies leave me questioning whether they are aligned with this objective or walking a different path. The confusion around #abaaccreditation serves to do nothing but allow certain organizations to protect their own interests while millions of people around the world go without access to services from educated, qualified, CREDENTIALED ABA practitioners. While I can't do anything to fix the system, I can certainly provide clarity about what we're dealing with: WHO IS ACCREDITED BY WHOM? The organizations listed below all focus exclusively on the field of ABA / Autism Services: (1) BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board): All three of their programs (RBT, BCaBA, and BACB) are accredited by the NCCA. (2) QABA (Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board): All three of their programs (ABAT, QASP-S, and QBA) are accredited by the ANSI/ANAB. (3) BICC (Behavior Intervention Certification Council): Both of their programs (BCAT and BCAP) are accredited by the NCCA. (4) IBAO (International Behavior Analyst Organization): Both of IBAO's programs (IBT and IBA) are just beginning their accreditation journey. REQUIRED COURSEWORK AND EDUCATION MINIMUM BCBA - 315 Hours with Masters QBA - 270 Hours with Masters IBA - 270 hours with Bachelors or Masters BCAP - 285 hours with Masters REQUIRED FIELDWORK HOURS AND SUPERVISION BCBA - 2,000 with 5% supervision / 1,500 with 10% supervision QBA - 1,500 with 5% supervision IBA - 1,000 with 5% supervision BCAP - 1,000 (I couldn't verify the percentage of required supervision) Are the QBA, IBA and BCBAP requirements equivalent to the BCBA equivalent? It's not my place to judge but surely we need better clarity for both professionals who want to join the field of behavior analysis, and more importantly, consumers of ABA services? As of today, the state of NC apparently views the QBA credential as being equivalent to the BCBA. They are accepting the QBA credential for reimbursement. Other states in queue are: GA, TX and FL.

Join us this #ThankfulThursday in celebrating Kristen Galloway, PhD, LP, BCBA-D. Dr. Galloway works at Baptist Behavioral Health in Jacksonville, FL. When asked “Why Does Certification Matter To you? What Did You Gain From Through The Certification Process?” Dr. Galloway shared “ DBT has been a life changing therapy professionally and personally. Being behaviorally trained, DBT targeted missing elements like acceptance and validation that is not inherit in other therapies I practice. Getting certified helped me challenge myself to meet my goals, help me sit with the discomfort of watching myself in therapy, made me a better therapist, and provided validation in my skillset.” Dr. Galloway shared that the best advice she has received in her career was, “We rarely use always and there is always more to learn. She added, “Allow space for discomfort, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. And commit to living in the and/or.” When Asked “How Do You Prioritize Reducing Burnout In Your Professional Life?” Dr. Galloway shared “Limits and values! DBT is a way of thinking and being. I set limits and prioritize what is important. I love my job and my family is very important. I set limits and use my DEARMAN skills to say no and create flexibility when I want to do something work related that may interfere with my balance. I also prioritize exercise. If I am not taking care of me, I can’t care for others.” Dr. Galloway shared her favorite skills to teach stating “I love 5 ways to solve a problem. It has so many layers! It is a distress tolerance skill that encompasses all the tools in DBT. It allows a person to be mindful in their willingness to use skills and requires people to mindfully choose to make it worse or not change which is changing behavior by mindfully choosing versus acting impulsivity. It also creates space to get out of black and white thinking by recognizing there are options.” Congratulations on Certification Kristen Galloway, PhD! #dbt #dbtlbc #certificationmatters
