3 Surprising Ways Sports Can Change The Narrative On Sexual Violence Ever considered the powerful role sports can play in combating sexual violence? It's not an association we often make, right? Yet, it's one of the most potent tools we have. In my latest episode of "We Read It So You Can Act On It," I break down the study "Sexual Violence Prevention: The Critical Role of Sport" by the Violence Against Women Learning Network. This report highlights how sports can both perpetuate and prevent sexual violence. I've simplified key points so coaches can quickly learn and apply practical strategies. Key Takeaways: Teach Respect: Regularly talk to your team about what respecting everyone looks like, on and off the field. Set Clear Rules: Ban any language or jokes that blame victims. Educate on Reporting: Ensure everyone knows the mandatory reporting processes at school and in the community. This series saves you time and provides actionable steps to foster a culture of respect and consent in sports. This really moved me and mainly because I can resonate with the pressures that come with working on projects, the demands and the deadlines are difficult enough to cope with when your mental health is good. However when it’s poor it can be a massive challenge. No two people are the same, what you may find easy to cope with others will really struggle with as they are dealing with so much more than you know. To the person dealing with poor mental health - remember your part of a team, your team are there to help lift you up through these times. Speak up and ask for help there is absolutely no shame in that, in fact it is hugely courageous. To the team - it’s your responsibility to recognise when your team mates are not coping, get to know your team more and you will pick up the signs/behaviours when they don’t have the courage to speak you can help them do that.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. 2 construction workers take their own lives each working day. Every death by suicide has a devastating impact, for families, friends, and communities. Each year our amazing Patron, Michelle Wiles, brings together a community of people to celebrate the life of her much-loved husband, Chris, who died by suicide. This year’s Shaggy Cup was another special day and we thank them so much for their support and courage in continuing to share Chris's story. Trigger warning - this can be difficult to watch and was certainly not easy for anyone involved to create: https://lnkd.in/e2jUnrHs #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #WSPD #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeing #stress #StartTheConversation #KeepYourMatesInMind
