Today is National Pizza Day. You ask "What does pizza have to do with business, leadership and success? The answer is A LOT. Pizza is the second most widely circulated form of currency next to, you know... real currency. How many employee Thank Yous have taken the form of the ubiquitous office pizza party? How many charities and non-profits have thanked their volunteers with.... yes, pizza? Admit it, last time you got your buddy to help you move, you probably bribed him with pizza and beer. No cash changed hands, it wasn't necessary. You had pizza. Lemme tell you a story.... many years ago I started a small medical billing company with a buddy of mine. (We convinced a couple doctors to jump ship and be our first clients, but that's a different story.) Anyhow, we rented a small (VERY small) office and the two of us, side by side, worked from 8am to 10pm, 6 days a week for the better part of a year getting things running. Just about every night we'd call Pizza Hut delivery for dinner, because they accepted company checks. We figured we were being smart keeping the expense under the company since neither of us got a paycheck yet. At the end of that year when we reviewed our annual expenses, after rent, our second highest expense was, you guessed it... Pizza Hut. True story. I think if you ask around, you'll find that pizza has fueled as much, if not more, late night entrepreneurial fantasy and mayhem than Red Bull or black coffee. And sometimes these three are simultaneously combined and consumed in various configurations. So let's all take a moment today to sing the praises of the mighty pizza, the backbone of industry, innovation and ingenuity! #nationalpizzaday

When I started in 2013, I would have never imagined one day my organization would have a warehouse with walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, a forklift, and 2 refer trucks - all shared with multiple small food businesses and nonprofits. We were moving millions of dollars of rescued food AND local food by acting as a food hub cross docking location. One of my bigger goals with the warehouse space was the opportunity to use the space to allow more of the groups purchasing food tap into wholesale prices by ordering as a group. While many food pantries order from their local Feeding America food bank, many nonprofits are still spending thousands of dollars monthly to purchase milk, protein and fresh produce to provide to clients. The ability to order collectively would allow these already maxed out nonprofits to leverage their limited budgets and staff (if they are lucky enough to have any) capacity. Investments in shared infrastructure make a huge difference for those groups busting their asses daily to meet their mission. They don’t have trucks, walk in coolers, shelving, or even space. Making it easy for groups to share space, especially in Des Moines, had far reaching impact.

What are your thoughts on this case?
In the mid 90s, Pepsi ran a commercial jokingly offering a Harrier Jet for 7 million Pepsi Points. One determined man, John Leonard, actually tried to claim it! He raised $700,000 and submitted an order for the jet, but the court ruled that no reasonable person would take the offer seriously. What are you thoughts about this? Sometimes, even legal battles can be fueled by soda! 🥤 #LegalFunFact #DidYouKnow #pepsi #bertonepiccini

building WE AID with my team – It always seems impossible until it´s done (Nelson Mandela) - Let´s do this, let´s do good.
Soundtrack (74 MIO views): ⏯ https://lnkd.in/dRqZE8mt & one of the LEGENDARY DAY OF CARING´s in motion already 2019: ⏯ https://lnkd.in/dSUs-WWQ ... 🌻 From 80s Musicvideos to Food Donations - The story of the John Deere sticker designed by yours truly – Once upon a time I stopped before giving away birthday #flowers to someone in the early 2000s and took a photo of a #sunflower from the center of the bouquet. I used the photo first for a keyvisual of a DVD with 70s songs ( I put a funny offer from today´s ebay for you into the comments ;) - thats just one of more than 600 DVD & CD designs I once made at my first job after studies). MANY years later #JohnDeere asked PHINEO for support for their DAY OF CARING packing thousands of bags for Germany´s TAFEL FOOD DONATIONS EACH year. I designed stickers for these bags. 🌻 The sunflower you see on THAT sticker is the same as on that DVD. I donated it solely in 2017 for the use within this cause. They kept the design eversince - a symbol of life and - just as the cases of the needy are real life too – a real sunflower containing #seeds as a symbol for a BETTER #future but also for the #agriculture #KNOWHOW of JOHN DEERE. You see: when whole companies step in, it´s a whole NEW level of WIN WIN on ALL sides. Stats say: 🤓 Employees who #doGood with their company (or get time to do so), stick significantly LONGER with the companies they work for. THANK YOU John Deere AND THANK YOU to ALL partners from the FIRST historic steps to NOW of PHINEO who made THIS happen :) 🆒 THERE IS MORE: Years later after the DAY OF CARING got established in Germany & right before I started building WE AID with my team, I also had the honour to design, Illustrate a #guidebook on #CorporateVolunteering supported by JOHN DEERE (👉 I put links for you into the comments) - it´s available FREE both in german & english. We did it some time after I designed one for #FondacionCHANEL of CHANEL also for a #goodcause. – JOHN DEERE to me is way like the CHANEL of #Agriculture ;) ... Meanwhile I´m also dreaming of using their #knowhow one day for #disasterresponse, since their sophisticated machines could be helpful in #extremeweather situations too. Future dreams :) Have a beautiful weekend anyone & show that JOHN DEERE posting love. They DESERVE it & I´m SUPERHAPPY they step in for Good. Btw. at WE AID we had besides #edu & #diversity initiatives similar projects responding to disasters (see our videos) - incl. thousands of food parcels. At the beginning of this learning curve LONG before WE AID was founded by PHINEO & UNITED WAY - was JOHN DEERE´s engagement for the TAFEL. You could say my connection AND #RESPECT for THIS LEGENDARY brand will ALWAYS be connected with to the DAY OF CARING :) When YOU HAVE THE CHOICE between brands and 1️⃣ it´s not the design, 2️⃣ not pricing 3️⃣ or tech specs, 😉THEN look for their civic engagement. #liveunited United Way Aloha United WayUnited Way of Greater Nashville Trident United Way
How do you define the greatest good? We believe it's what we do for others. This year, our teams across six locations in Germany packed over 10,000 bags of essential food and hygiene products for local food banks. With rising demand and limited donations, food banks need our support more than ever. Linus Baumhauer, Mannheim’s factory manager, reflects: “The Day of Caring is a long-standing tradition that underscores our commitment to making a meaningful impact, especially during challenging times.” In addition to goods, the John Deere Foundation also provides financial support to food banks. #JohnDeereEurope

How might unlocking the expertise, creativity, and motivation of supermarket employees transform food donation? How can worker-engaged approaches further benefit retailers and employees? To address these questions, RECIPES researchers from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, & Maryland Institute College of Art Center for Creative Impact (formerly the Center for Social Design) convened a cohort of 10 frontline employees from four Albertsons Companies’ grocery retail stores in the Mid-Atlantic area (known as "Fresh Rescue Champions" or "Champions") to co-design a set of strategies to improve the food donation program. The project is rooted in the idea that when given the opportunity to think closely about needs, frontline workers can utilize their lived experience and expertise to develop strategies that both differ and complement those developed by others.
